A family member is moving from West Virginia to Virginia (Fairfax County) and bringing his suppressor.  As best as I can tell we don't have to notify BATFE, though we've done so anyway.  How about Fairfax County?  Do we have to notify anyone here, and if so, who?  And what form should that notificaiton take?

No notification to either Fairfax County or the State Police is required for suppressors. MGs must be registered with the State Police, but not suppressors.

If it's a permanent move from WV to VA, a 5320.20 to the BATFE telling them of the move and allowing them to update the registry should be done.

Temporary movement to VA and back to WV doesn't require a .20 to be filed.

The approved permanent relocation .20 is good to have on hand should an officer ask to see the Form 1 or 4 as you'd have a VA DL and an F1/4 with a WV address on it.

The .20 costs you nothing and is one more piece of "approved federal paperwork" you can shake in the face of the uninformed who think suppressors are illegal to begin with.
