I've been organizing a small IDPA style shoot over at Sigforum.  A bunch of guys had been saying how neat it would be to have a shoot where guys could put faces to user names in a competitive environment.  Well, I made all the arrangements, got the date, and details and made the announcement at Sigforum.  Well, the shoot is next Thursday and I've still got half the slots available.

This is a problem.

So, if any of you guys are up for a mid-week match, it will be a fairly easy one.  If you've never shot IDPA, this would be a great way to learn about it.  Most of the guys who signed up have never shot competitively.  Here is a link to the Sigforum announcement.

We've got plenty of slots.  Send me an e-mail if you want to sign up.

Good going Cliffy!

Did I help create a monster here?

I'd like to try to make it up there but it would have to be one of the later squads.

I'll try to let you know something asap.

Cool.  Just let me know.  If you have a Sig, bring it.  I might have a surprise in a day or two and it will benefit you to shoot a Sig.

I was leaving the NRA range tonight when a guy approached me and told me about this.  For the life of me I can't remember his name (he goes by "four" at Sigforum) but I have spoken with him at the range before.

I don't think I have anything going on that Thursday and will register if at all possible.  Thanks for putting this together, Cliffy!

Your Tec-9 isn't IDPA legal.

Cliffy I just sent out an email to about 8-10 people I know who may be interested in shooting it.  There may be more non-SIGs than SIGs show up.    I was planning on shooting either a G17 or G34.

Wow... we're just about booked now.  I have two slots left at 6:00 and one at 8:00.  This is going to be a blast.  Todd Green from the LE division at Sigarms is coming and bringing Sig SWAG and at least one prize for a shooter, as long as they are shooting a Sig.

Thanks for the help guys.

Quick IDPA question.... is there any bonus to bringing a .357 SIG over a 9mm in IDPA (like power factor score multiplier or something)

No advantage at all.  Both are shot in SSP and there is no power factor issue.

Shit.  I've already got two on the waiting list at 8:00.  I have two slots at 6:00 and could probably squeeze one more on a 7:00, but we just can't handle a 12 man squad in an hour.

Well that was fast.  All slots are now full, including the 6:00 squad.  Thanks guys.  This will be a good one.  It wont be particularly difficult, but will be fun and if you've never shot IDPA, its an easy introduction to it.  See you all there.

WOW....I wish I had seen this sooner.  I've really been itching to try IDPA and this would have been a great start.  Would it be ok to come and just watch and learn?  I'd like to sit the classroom session too, just for the learning.  Woodbridge is a haul from Sterling, but if there's room for a spectator, I'll make the drive.  Thanks.

Spectators are more than welcome.  Especially if you're good with pasters.

Great match Cliffy.
I was very well run and very smooth. Shooting Todds 552 again was really cool and Todd I'll email with the info on Thurmont tomorrow.

I think I did reasonably well considering that I haven't fired my Ernest Langdon 220ST in almost a year.  I used USGI Olin 230gr ammo.

I wanted to stay in the SIG spirit and shoot a SIG, I definately tanked in on that first stage and shot too damn low and got a procedural (USPSA is spoiling me but what the hell I'm doing very good at it, my goal is to make Master in IDPA this year and then shoot a whole lot less of it and make A class Production in USPSA).

This was a great match, and I thank all involved in putting it together.  Seemed like everyone had a good time.  Cool to see a bunch of Sigs in the match.

Hope to shoot with you all again soon!

Great Sig shoot!  Credit goes to Todd of Sig Arms for providing the Sig 552 Rifle (and ammo),  Steve for organizing the shoot, Jay for being the shoot's safety officer, Helmie of I-SHOT/S.E.R.T. Systems for doing the safety briefing and Jim Rowe of Shooters Paradise for hosting this event.

Funniest scene last night (for me anyway) was borrowing a friend's P226 Sport Stock with a tuned trigger & sights for the last stage of the shoot; a simple "el prez". Simple, right? Only I did not discover that the magazine catch was reversed until I went to dump the magazine (oh how I laughed). It really was comical.

I would sign up for an event like this again in a heartbeat. Sig provided Sig Arms hats, mugs, keychains, pins and other prizes for this shoot, plus literature on their new products.

The Sig 552 was an amazing gun to shoot and should Sig ever decide to offer them for sale by building them in the USA, then I would buy one.  The current BATFE just recently made this more difficult by imposing a new (2005) ban or interpretation of a ban on the use of imported barrels for the Sig 550 series (LE and military excepted of course).  I like this administration better than the last one, but they have made things difficult on a company like Sig - who also builds guns in the US and employs many many US citizens.

As soon as Sig decides to hold another shoot like this one, I'll be the 1st to sign up.

Douglas

Well they caught the whole embarassing & really funny thing on film! Here is (hopefully) a picture of me hitting the non-existant mag release on the left side of the gun. Turns out it had been switched to the right side of the gun - which I eventually discovered. Too bad I had to figure it out while the timer was running.

Anyway, I enjoy shooting & its always a good time; even when things like this happen. To the SigForum guys who came out: I think every one of you shot very very well (far above average for the typical shooters. Maybe its a Sig thing). Now that you know where Shooters is, keep in mind that we have shoots there almost every Wednesday night and for IDPA and USPSA, most Sigs of at least 9mm or larger are perfect guns to bring.  Check out our forums for IDPA and USPSA at www.shootersparadise.com

D.C. Johnson
