Yes, that's what I've heard.  I can buy any gun I want, either longarm or handgun at 18.  But longarms only at gunshops...no handguns till 21.  

Personally I think it would be good to buy a handgun as a first weapon...something that you can take to the range all year round and good for self-defense.

I'm glad I started with rifles. I have a rifle for HD because I don't want put myself at a disadvantage.     Rifle>pistol. Simple as that.

I haven't gotten the itch to buy another pistol yet, but I am taking a liking to a Sig 226 in 40S&W.
