What are your picks for best and worst in the Meadows? And why?

(hey ..... we gotta keep up with our Southern Bretheren, lest they start calling us the Ding Dongs up North ........ oh ...... wait.)

I am going to give my vote for best as :
Carson Armory
This is a heavily biased opinion, based on many years of great treatment by Harry and Ilene.

My vote for worst will go to Gun Trader in Reno. This vote is also heavily biased, based on several bad encounters with the high and mighty gun-snob types behind the counter.

Siver State Arms -
Just about the only one I can stand.  Prices are not insane and they have a good selection.

Sportsman's Warehouse-
Good selection, good prices.

Gart sports-
Good prices on Remington rifles and shotguns.  Pistols are full retail

Guntrader -
Great service and a good selection, but high prices.

Bizarre Guns-
Great selection, but very high prices on most stuff.  Also requires background even on 1871 dated rifles

ALD Enterprises-
Poor selection and good prices only if you are a cop and have letterhead...

Shooter's Shack-
No selection...

Gun Shows

Crossroads-
Great place to buy flea market items with an $8.00 cover charge

Big Reno Show-
Good selection of non-EBR stuff.   Great place to see 97% of the exact same overpriced rifles you saw the last show there...  Many times, you will have to find the rifle's  "new" owner's table to see the price increase.  Of couse, you will have to "ask for the price as most items are unmarked.

I believe most aren't interested in selling, but treat it like a social event.

What other guns stores are there left?

It might be a good idea to list the best and lowest cost transfer dealers also.  I get tired of paying sales tax on private transfers.

Liquor and Guns at the same place? Talk about your one-stop-shopping experience! (or would that be Wal-Mart?)

I got no problem with it, but doesn't that send the wrong message to the sheeple?

"Gonna get this here gun an' bullets, and Oh! Hey! We don't have ta stop at the liqua-sto' to get our suds, neither! Hot diggity, damn! Let's go get tanked an' blast some stuff up!"

Hey, I know its not true, but the mass perception of gun-enthusiasts isn't very good throughout this great nation of ours

I've not had the money to purchase here in NV, yet, but I've done an awful lot of window shopping so far.

I've visited most of the shops (at least the ones I could find) throughout Carson City, and the Carson Valley, and my best impression to date has been the Carson Armory.

I can't wait to give them my business!

Hey is that guy named Jan still there on Rock and Glendale.  He was across from the Shy CLown casino now something else.  He was great to me years ago.  I bought a Colt Pyhton for $189 brand new, so it was years ago.

Guns Etc. went out of businiess a year or so ago...   And it's been the Baldini's sports casino for at least 10 or 15 years now...

frontier liqour has a huge selection of all brand new guns i mean shitloads of nice guns for a really good price. Ron Brant the owner is a hella cool guy and everyone in the town goes there. Ya you can by a brand new bushmaster or new Barret 50 and pick up a bottle of jack if you want to. its not sending any message in fallon cause everyone here hunts or shoots.

The last time I bought a gun in Reno, I went to Mark, Fore, and Strike, found what I liked, then went to Shooter's Shack and had them order it.  Cost + 10%, IIRC, and it was there the next day.

Hiwathl---
I think what Arashi was meaning in regards to ALD is that they have better deals for LE with letterhead.  That is not unusual since many gun manufacturers have special LE only deals for police officers.
I know Glock gives a pretty good price break for letterhead purchasers.  These are typically specially packaged models with different labels on the boxes and extra mags, night sights, etc.
AFAIK ALD is still selling to civis and would still do a transfer for you. As always, call and confirm before ordering and shipping to your FFL of choice.

I like shooters shack but I have only used them for a transfer. Flexible and friendly, will get first dibs on my business.

Nobody mentioned Guns R Us; I tried to set up a transfer through him once and his attitude and screwy policies dealing with the sellers ffl blew the deal. Never again.

Allalphas is right.  ALD does sell to civilians, but the deals are better for LEO's, especially Glock stuff.  They have by far the best selection of CCW holsters, "tatical" scopes, etc. in the area.

It would be nice if we could build a list of transfer dealers and there costs.  Like 10% plus tax, etc.  Do they charge tax on private transfers, etc.

I won't pay tax on something I purchase on "my" credit card and mearly have it shipped to the tranfer dealer.  They aren't selling me something, they are just providing a transfer service.

The general sentiment is, at least among us living within the Carson / Dayton / Gardnerville triangle is that you should shop everywhere, then buy from Harry at the Carson Armory up in Mound House. He's always got the best deals and selection in the area and isn't part of some megaconglomeration like Gart or Sportsman's Whorehouse.

I try to buy ammo from Richard at Special Interest Arms here in Gardnerville, even though the guy is a complete kook, I feel it's my obligation as a good little bougoisese to support the local economy by overpaying for the old laquer-necked Wolf .223s.

What the hell is my problem?

Geez...............I guess you see how long ago it's been since I went south.  But I'll retire back in Reno that's why I won't give up the name.  Thanks Arashi

Shooters Shack sometimes doesnt have a large inventory but they order anything you want anf his prices are always fair. Bizare Guns and Guitars is just that...... bizare....will not deal and act like they are the only gun store in the state. Hell with them. Gun Trader is ok if you want to pay full bore...had the owner lie to once about an XD...hes a stocking Springfield dealer????? I have bought a couple of guns from him...not a bad shop just expensive and rarely if ever see an AK in the rack.
