I had the unexpected opportunity to meet the Douglas County Sheriff (Ron Pierini) tonight.

The event had nothing to do with firearms, but I got the chance to pull him aside, and personally thank him for playing a pivotal role in reinstating the NCIS exemption for CCW holders.

He was most gracious for my thanks.

He also said that the "whole thing was a silly misunderstanding between the Nevada Sheriffs Association and the ATF. It was a lot of work to get the issue fixed, but it was the right thing to do, and he was happy to do his duty and protect the interests of Nevada's residents."

"Misunderstanding" to say the least! But he seemed like a nice enough guy. Definitely a politician, but at least he did what was right by us. Overall, a good experience!

Isn't he up for re-election soon?

Met him on a few occasions. Politician is an excellent  description.
Funny how when receiving praise for doing his job, he claims it's the right thing to do.
When someone else pinned him down on the same issue, before the Chiefs were interested in helping out (i.e. before they realized how many of us there were and how pissed of we were about it), his response was more like, "There aren't that many CCW holders, so this issue isn't big enough.  We don't have the resources to do what ATF wants. BLAHBLAHBLAH."  This is second hand info, so take it for what it's worth, but it falls right in line with my personal experience.
Yes, he will be up for reelection, I don't know if anybody is gonna oppose him, I don't know if I'll like them better.
I don't dislike Perieni, I just have had enough negative experiences that I would be happy to see somebody new runnin'  the show.
