City of Manitou Springs Considers Ban Of Firearms In Public Areas

http://www.nraila.org/LegislativeUpdate.asp?FormMode=Detail&ID=754&EID=5191-6302003

In protest to Colorado's recently-passed firearms preemption law, the City of Manitou Springs is considering an ordinance to ban the open carry of firearms in some public areas. Claiming that firearms will scare away tourists, the City Council voted unanimously to go forward with a ban on open carry in several public areas. However, the new ordinance must be considered again at a public hearing before it becomes law. It is vital that you call the Mayor at (719) 685-2555 and the City Manager at (719) 685-5596 and convey your displeasure at their disregard for the law. The Council can also be reached by e-mail at [email protected]. If possible, you should also plan to attend the next Council meeting on June 17 at 7:00 pm and make your views known.

If you do not live in the Manitou Springs area, be on the lookout! Similar propositions, aimed at compromising your Right to Keep and Bear Arms, may be on the move in your cities and towns!

I don't really understand what effect this could have if passed anyway. Wouldn't SB25 trump it immediately? A little like Colorado passing a bill that eliminated the federal income tax, nice jesture but when it comes down to it it wouldn't mean anything.

SB25 specifically allows lesser governments to regulate the open carry of firearms.

It's just the Manitou Springs Left Wing (Nuts) libs showing the world that they're still just as anti gun as ever.  It's pure political posturing.  Who gives a rats bottom.  I quit considering Manitou as a place to visit back in the 70's when they were the second city in Colorado to pass a no open carry law.  They obviously don't need my money.  Karl.
