A gal I know, early 20's, one infant son and no marketable skills, is trying to do classes online to upgrade herself. I admire her fortitude, but haven't the personal resources to help out. Her laptop died and she needs another. Nuffin fancy, just something with an OS and possibly wifi capable. Actually, I had a couple old ones, but, they ran away when I moved into the spam can. LMK if anyone can help out. Yes, if that's what it takes, I'll try to post a pic of her with the 'puter, when she gets one.

How did she get a kid if she has no marketable skills?

They are free to use at the library.

I know, but she's trying to do this with a little crumb cruncher at hand. And, the library limits you to one hour online, assuming there's a computer available. Take a baby to the library sometime, see how ell that works out. Like I said, times are tough at her house and I'm trying to help out.

How about a desktop? I don't even have a good laptop, but I might be able to scrounge together a desktop.

Pics or GTFO.

1. I will see what I can learn about her dead laptop.

2. I will ask her tomorrow about a desktop vs laptop.

3. I will post a pic of her with her new or repaired computer when we complete this mission. Assuming, of course, I come up with a camera. My phone takes terrible pix and I know not how to get them from the phone to anywhere. GTFO yourownself, Mr. Greenacres.

"Toshiba Satellite  m65-s9092

Colored lines through screen

and
then it all of the sudden stopped turning on, then I'd take the power cord
out and it would try to turn on, then I'd plug it back in and it wouldn't
turn on, the light that indicates the power cord is working doesn't light
up. The only way I got it to turn on last time was by jiggling the cord
for almost an hour."

A direct quote from her about what it is and what it's doing. Anybody with an idea?

Yeah the little piece soldered between the power supply and the power plug jack is prolly done for. Same shit happens with cell phones.

Anyways, in the desktop department, I'll kick in an lcd monitor. I may have a cpu, need to keep diggin in storage. Goddamn thieves took my microwave and half my computer shit, but left an lcd monitor and my 1200 dollar leupy.

P.S. You still need those para p14 hogue grips? Found em.

Don't know about the lines throught he screen but the powe rissue is a known problem with Toshibas.  They really suck in that respect but iot is supposedly repairable.

IT's for an MX35 but the fix is probably the same

I am sitting next to an extra desktop case, 768 Mb memory, modem, DVD/CD-RW, and I think the power supply works. I might have a small (<200Gb) HD around here. But the case needs a cpu/motherboard, NIC, keyboard, and mouse.

I'm sure we got enough nerds here to have enough parts to build a system good enough for web browsing. Does she need to be about to do papers and presentations or real time online classes? IOW, does she need specific software?

Thanks, kids. I believe w have a solution to the problem. A laptop has been donated that should fit the bill. I asked her about the desktop option. She lives in a dinky place where it wouldn't be feasible, logistically. But, again, thanks, I knew I could bank on your kindness, as well as need for immediate sexual gratification.

Stall tactics.
You'll wait until we all forget what's going on and play dumb like you don't know what we're talking about.

I do it all the time.
Just not on purpose, though.
