One of my best friends is a master carb technician. If you want IM me your phone number and I will see if we can get you hooked up ASAP. He lives in Federal Way and does all of my custom carb work. The best part is he don't charge an arm or a LEG.

I am trying to fix it at the moment but I dont know if I want to trust it to a long journey.

Edlebrock carbs are not jetted for street use out of the box, get your self a "strip kit" [set of jets and needles] and jet it down till it gives you your best performance.

as for tuning it..after you've got it running.....start with the mixture screws out at about 2-2 1/2 turns....turn them in a quarter turn at a time...till the engine starts to stumble..then back out 1/4 turn, called a "lean drop" that will be where it runs best.

p.s. Make sure your carb is mated to your engine displacement......to many cfm's and it won't run very well.

too many cfm is my problem I think. I got a 650 cfm on a 305 with a stock intake and only a spacer for a riser. It is getting dumped in hard. and I already leaned it out with jets and rods.

I might try a low flow electric pump and see if starving the carb a little helps

650 cfm is fine for a 305. Back when I had my '77 Camaro, it had a 305 with a 650 Holley....ran quite well. Is your problem at idle, just off idle or WOT ? Is the accelerator pump working properly? You might get more help here if you give a little more description of the problem than just saying it doesn't work.

yeah my 650 Edelbrock dropped right onto my 302 and ran pretty well with just the stock settings.
