INITIATIVE 776 UPHELD
The state Supreme Court has upheld Initiative 776 -- the 30-dollar vehicle license tab measure approved last November by voters. In a ruling today in Olympia, the court overturned a King County court that declared the initiative unconstitutional for having two subjects. The Supreme Court says I-776 had a single subject --reducing the car tab fee. It also ruled the initiative would not impair bonds issued by King County. The case goes back to King County Superior Court for further proceedings. The ruling is a victory for the state, which defended the initiative and sponsor Tim Eyman. The initiative eliminates local taxes above the 30-dollar limit.
Many vehicle owners in Washington who have been paying more than 30 dollars for their state license tax in the past year are due refunds. The state Supreme Court has upheld Initiative 776, the measure passed by voters in November of last year to limit car tabs to 30 dollars. However the court sent the case back to King County Superior Court to decide the affect of the initiative on the Sound Transit tax in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. And Seattle drivers will still pay more because of the monorail tax.
Initiative 776 sponsor Tim Eyman says he's "extremely happy" that the state Supreme Court has upheld the 30-dollar car tab measure. He says voters have twice approved the 30-dollar car tab measure. The first initiative was overturned in court. He says he had a better lawyer this time. The anti-tax initiative sponsor plans a new measure next year to reduce property taxes. The head of Sound Transit, King County Executive Ron Sims, says the agency plans to go ahead with construction of light rail in Seattle. That's despite today's state Supreme Court ruling that upheld Initiative 776 and cast doubt on the Sound Transit tax in King, Pierce and Snohomish counties. Initiative sponsor Tim Eyman appeared at Sims' news conference this afternoon in Seattle and questioned him, but Sims refused to answer Eyman.
Sims, what a fucking PUSSY!
