Archived [ARCHIVED THREAD] - Erie to Canada for a day - Duty Free shopping

We're going to Erie for a surprise birthday party for my son in Erie PA in a few weeks.  We're thinking about making a side trip through NY into Canada for the sole purpose of making some duty free purchases.  What are the implications of doing that if any?  Just checking before we attempt this big caper!
