I thought about doing that, but figured I'd be too tired by next year if I started practicing now.

Some matches specify a maximum length for tactical iron and tactical scope.  The maximum length is usually 22" barrel and 23" magazine tube.   Most IMGA style matches place a capacity restriction of  9 rounds to start on shotguns for Tactical Scope and Tactical Iron.

ou are only scored against others using similar equipment.

classes at the south mountain match are:

Tactical Iron
Tactical Scope
Open
He-Man

Bob doesn't have specific rules listed so I will assume they are about the same as most of the other International Multi-Gun Matches

He-Man/Heavy Metal:
Rifle: .308 or larger with iron sights only, no bipods, and 20 round mags or less
Pistol: .44 or larger, iron sights only, no compensators, 10 shot capacity or less
Shotgun: 12 gauge pump, iron sights only, 9 shot capacity or less.

Tactical Iron:
Rifle: Iron Sights only, Compensators must be less than 1” diameter X 3” length, no bipods allowed
Pistol: Iron Sights only, no compensators, Max Magazine Length is 140mm over all length for double stacks, and 170mm over all length for single stacks
Shotgun: Iron Sights only, no compensators, 9 round capacity maximum*, no speed loaders

Tactical Scope:

Rifle: Any single optic may be used, Compensators must be less than 1” diameter X 3” length, no bipods allowed
Pistol: Iron Sights only, no compensators, Max Magazine Length is 140mm over all length for double stacks, and 170mm over all length for single stacks
Shotgun: Iron sights only, no compensators, 9 round capacity maximum*, no speed loaders

Open:
Rifle: No limitations on accessories
Pistol: No limitation on accessories, max mag lengths are 210mm for double stacks and 240mm for singl stacks IIRC
Shotgun: No limitation on accessories, speed loaders must have primer relief cuts, use of old style speed loaders will result in match DQ.

All 3 guns must comply with the rules of the class you want to shoot in.  If only one gun has features that would place it in another class, you will shoot in that class.

thanks alot that give me all the info i need so im good with my 18" barrel

thanks

It certainly is that. I'd be there this weekend, but I have to go to Denver for a buddy's bachelor party. Supposedly there will be a few of his buddy's from his old SF group, so maybe I will get in some shooting this weekend...

Anyway, it's worth it go take a look, but bring your shooting gear in case you decide to participate. You'll find that most match directors are happy to help out someone new to the game.

I got a +5 on stage 3 but still managed to win it.  A lot of people must have been missing those head shots.

Too cool... and you still beat one of the Open shooters and several Tactical shooters. Wish I could have been there, but was having fun in Denver.

During the bachelor party, my buddy (the groom) hugged a Denver cop (full on bear hug) at one of the bars we stopped at and lived to tell the tale. Didn't even get tasered. I can't even begin to describe how disappointed I am...
