I wish these deer would keep to a schedule... Today 5.30am spooked 3 off my feeder in the woods... then proceeded to walk about 1/4 mile to the next stand.. spooked 2 more off right next to the stand into the woods....

Same here, spooked on coming in at 6:30a, watched 6 doe/fawn for an hour then coughed once and spooked a spike.  Maybe he heard about the Chi-nuh virus.  Other than squirrel and turkey, that's all I've seen.

I've got a small, yet high traffic area I bow hunted last year.  Every time I went out, I saw deer, but they were just a bit out of range (for me).  Would it be worth it now to set up some salt blocks to draw them in, or is it too late in the season to mess with it?

Grab a couple of 50# bags of whole corn ($5/bag) from Tractor Supply, Rural King, or your local grain mill and put it out. They will come to it daily.

I don't make it up to the spot that often. Just pour the bags out into a pile and wait?

Last night I took the thermal out yote hunting and deer watching. They are moving... A lot.

I watched two bucks lock horns for at least 10min. That was fun to watch.

I was able to get one dog to come into the call, but it locked up at about 500yds and wouldn’t budge. Never got a shot off.

Feeling good about the coming week of deer hunting with the cold weather. The rut is coming, sooner than later.

I've seen quite a bit of movement and a nice 10-point on the camera. Sitting out tonight and Sunday evening. Will report later.

No Cameras out.

But we have bucks galore, rub lines and scrapes all over the property.

We'll have almost 400 acres to hunt this year. ~200 that we own, ~200 neighboring property.

First deer ever. Not the big buck I saw, but a nice healthy 6-point. Should be good eating.

There is nothing louder than being elevated 20' up in a tree located in a quiet woods and having a group of does "Pop" acorns in their jaws only 6' from the base of this tree. Nerve wracking is watching, and hearing this loud popping of acorns from the group of does while trying to keep an eye on a 190" to 200" buck that is 50 yards off watching to see if any in the group of does gets ambushed but still working his way slowly to a meeting with a Rothaar Snuffer broadhead only to have it all blow up in your face

Just missed an opportunity on this guy...

He snuck up the creek behind me and I couldn’t get positioned for a shot. He was 20 yards away and looking right at me till he walked off.

Hoping he comes back this afternoon.

The last day I planned to bow hunt.  I know it's not a BIG Ohio monster, but for WV with my dad's 30 something year old bow, I'm really happy.

Got rained on for 5 hours yesterday morning, saw nothing.  I really thought it would’ve paid off.  Back at it this morning for the last of archery attempts. I’ve been seeing nice bucks on camera during daylight when I’m not out, can’t seem sync our schedules since seeing the big boy on Veterans Day. Hoping to fill my tag today, otherwise the 450 is going to the range this week.

I sat in my blind in the rain for about 4 hours.. I called blindly and this 8 point came in. Im using an extinguisher deer call. <--good call.. really works... and no i don't get paid  i just like to pass along what works

had him within 40 yards at one point but high weeds and the blind kept me from a clean shot.. I have about 20 /30 yards of low grass in front of the blind, just could not get him in..

my first mistake was not putting out any doe estrus strip for him to sniff up,,,  I would call him and he would look for her but just kept moving along.

F-ing frustrating..  but that  is hunting.

So question for the OH crowd. I'm visiting Scioto county for gun season, and will be using a 350 Legend AR. Do I need to block the 5 round magazine? From the regs here

Shotguns and straight-walled cartridge rifles can be loaded with no more than three shells in the chamber and magazine combined.

That language is kind of vague.

You can only have 3 rounds in the gun total.  You don't have to plug your shotgun or block your mags.  That all changed a few years back when straight wall cartridges became legal.

So, this should amuse y'all.

Looks like my buddy who back in September was like "yeah, let's hunt... we have land that we can use" (family owned property over towards Wheelersburg) is now balking at going hunting.  So, it's looking like this week is a no-go.  Which bums me out greatly.

So, in lieu of another venue, I'm looking at the weekend of the 19th/20th and thinking about trying to get out on public land.

Anyone have any success public land hunting in SW Ohio?  I'm not looking for trophy bucks, I'd just like to put some meat in the freezer.

Yeah, I know I owe several of you new keyboards now.

Yesterday, first day of youth gun season and I got out with my 7yr old boy.

Nothing in the morning, but about 4:30 a nice 6pt buck came in with a doe and lasered in on my doe estrus bottle I had hanging at 20yrs.

Perfect broad side shot at exactly 18yds. Lined him up and “boom”, 410ga slug sailed under him by about 1/2”. He was gone with the wind after the boom stick lit off.

It was a good lesson learned and even though he missed he’s still geeked up to go.

Had three deer on my thermal this morning, maybe 50yds out through heavy scrub and trees, then (I’m assuming) a buck came in and started chasing them away from us. Other than that it was a dead morning.

Heading back out around 3pm to try and bag him his first deer.

Good luck to the little dude! What 410 do you have him shooting?

ETA: Seems like, at least prior to straight-wall cartridges, a 410 is the Ohio equivalent to the .243 that most youngsters get started on where I grew up in PA.
