Got the 450 heated up last weekend. It shot fine, I got it sighted in off the seat of the 4wheeler. I did have one fail to feed, and to me the recoil is about like a Muzzleloader. Feels funny, because AR's don't kick.
Got a quick sight in at 75 yards, then was hitting steel plates at 150. |

Will a standard 10 round AR mag feed rounds OK? View Quote I got mags from Franklin Armory. They use ACS mags I think. I got the short ones (5 rounds??), and they feed great. I read the longer hi-cap ones have issues though. |

I believe the curve in the 30rn mags cause issues with the 450bm. The straight 5,10 20rnd should be good.
I'm using colt 20rnd mag with the ebay follower. |

Oh dear, did you see Leupolds Mark AR 450 Bushmaster reticle scope on ebay?
Not sure if they are special/custom order or a factory run. |

VICTORY!!!
Straight-walled cartridge rifles in the following calibers: New this year! All straight-walled cartridge calibers from a minimum of .357 to a maximum of .50. Shotguns and straight-walled cartridge rifles can be loaded with no more than three shells in the chamber and magazine combined. http://wildlife.ohiodnr.gov/hunting-trapping-and-shooting-sports/hunting-trapping-regulations/deer-hunting-regulations |

I'm going to research this question also, but if I may ask quickly here, what's the shortest length barrel that does this round justice at it's effective range for deer?

I'm thinking about pulling the .450 BM trigger. Is the standard Bushmaster upper gtg?

Mine is still sitting in pieces. I did order a rail for it today. I don’t know if I’ll be home in time for gun season.

Hoping to confirm my zero (35 yards) today. Need to order some more Hornady Black ammo, too.
Anyone else getting excited to run their .450BM this year?? |

Wow, I really like this cartridge. After 35-40 rounds I think "MOA all day long" may be possible.

Verified the zero this weekend, and let the wifey and a buddy shoot "thumper". It was a hoot, especially when the wife shot it.
At 50 yards on my 12" Thor AR500 target, the .250gr SST hot so hard it rocked the target back and then it fell face forward. I was surprised, as the Thor base is pretty stout. Couple more weeks and I'm hoping to harvest a few with this rig. |

has there been any talk of going full rifle next year?... View Quote I think they should do it by county. The southern counties I can see rifle being apporved. Up north in the flat areas, like where I'm at, I doubt it. I think letting the counties decide would be the best chance to get rifle approved. |

I don't see it happening, but then again we have come a long way in the last 4 years. I always assumed Ohio would go to straight wall cartridges at some point, I mean you could already use any straight wall cartridge in an handgun. It wasn't a very big step (logically) to allow us to use the same cartridges with a buttstock attached. Getting to the next step and adding bottleneck cartridges will be interesting. We have a good position that PA, WV, KY, IN and parts of MI allow it. I kind of wonder if we will have to compromise to get it allowed something like south of interstate 70/71 or only certain counties.
I am happy at this point and will enjoy finally being able to use my AR to hunt. We can now carry real rifles in the field and not lug around a shotgun with a crappy trigger. This past year I actually pulled off the scope and sold my rifled shotgun barrel and put the field barrel back on. No more going back for me.....but I do kind of want to take a deer with my grandpa's old shotgun. It's funny, now we can use longer range, more accurate, less kicking rifle options and the last 4 years of deer have been shot at 40, 10, 30, 30 yards. Good luck next week! |
