Asking for my uncle, he does not have an account here.

He is going with a buddy to southern California on a hunting trip to hunt doves (or some other kind of bird).

What do they need to know about what shotguns they can bring, laws, ammo laws, etc.  They plan on bringing lead shot (plenty of it), semi-auto shotgun, and an over-under.

They leave tonight, so I figured I would check here what is kosher out there.

Thanks!

Direct from California Department of Fish and Wildlife:

Effective July 1, 2016, nonlead shot will be required when taking upland game birds with a shotgun, except for dove, quail, snipe, and any game birds taken on licensed game bird clubs. In addition, nonlead shot will be required when using a shotgun to take resident small game mammals, furbearing mammals, nongame mammals, nongame birds, and any wildlife for depredation purposes.

Need a plug so the mag can only hold 2 shells.

If he needs steel shot he can buy it here.

If the semi-auto SG does not have a detachable mag or pistol grip then it will be legal.

One of the links for feature less parts is now going to a case trimmer at Brownells.  I think the site manager has a happy night last night.
