Paul, thanks for taking a bullet for us.

Based upon my past inquires to the DOJ, I would conclude that the kit is not legal. It can be installed without a use of a tool..... i.e. the warning not to use finger-tight.

Any good welder can tack-weld that nut in place without damage to the lower. You just need to take a cutting disk to it and cut that nut off....

How about using epoxy and epoxying the whole nut on? or a second thought is to drill it and put safety wire which will not be easily removable @ all, might be a b**ch to drill though ....

Batf considers permanant type locktite to be as good as welding since it takes a propane torch to loosen.

But if a washer and a nut will cut it, esp with light duty locktite, then you're golden.

I'm thinking a nice rubber or fiber washer with a stainless washer and stainless locknut(they type with nylon in the end). Won't shoot loose or be finger removable, without ever having to torque the heck out of it.

I have a bushmaster fixed mag and the main gripe I have with it is that if you do mangage to get a death jam, (which only happened with a particular brand of sintered ammo), you cannot just yank out the mag. You have to do all the clearing work thru the ejection port, since the rifle won't field strip with the bolt back a little. Being able to yank the mag(after removing the pistol grip of course) would go a long way towards clearing a bad jam without having to use dental pics and play amatuer gun gynocologist.h.gif
