I'm thinking of getting a 1911 from Yost-Bonitz.

It is a Springfield GI that has been customized, so I'm wondering if it's legal for sale.

Was it originally a Springfield 1911 that is on the CA-approved list? If it is, then any amount of customization is OK.

I don't know if the 1911s they use are CA-approved. What would be the difference?

If the Yost-Bonitz company is selling it under their name, and is not on the list, probably not. However, you can get a GI from Springfield and then send it to Yost-Bonitz to customize it.

Seems like Yost-Bonitz is not, so probably not.

I guess the reasoning is that once it passes the drop test, it is CA-safe, and what the purchaser does after obtaining the firearm is not CA's business as long as it does not break firearm laws.
