Here is your oppurtunity to give Gov. Davis the finger, figeratively speaking of course. Get him where it hurts. And of course if you have a few extra minutes go volunteer to campaign for Tom McClintock, he's been a pro-gunner from day 1.
For some of us gunners that is not registered and/or moved,the time is near to do so.

Deadline to vote in recall nears

BARSTOW -- Residents who want to have a say in the Oct. 7 recall election must register to vote by Sept. 22 if they are not already registered.

Sept. 22 is also the deadline to re-register to vote for residents who have moved, changed their names or want to change political parties.

Barstow currently has 7,165 registered voters, down from 8,455 in 2001. The city gained 40 voters between now and last fall, but City Clerk JoAnne Cousino said she would like to see more residents register.

"Only one vote makes a difference," Cousino said. "It can change everybody's lives."

To register or re-register, residents must complete a voter registration form and mail it to the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters.

Residents who want to register can pick up registration cards from City Hall or call Cousino to have her send one in the mail. Additionally, she will have a voter registration table from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 15. at City Hall.

Barstow Community College will also have a voter registration table, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 9 and Sept. 10.

Local businesses that want to have registration events like the college's can contact Cousino to find out whether somebody from the city would be available to work that day.

Also, companies can contact Cousino if they want to provide a stack of registration cards for their customers or employees.

All California residents are eligible to vote except for the following people:

• Prison inmates and anyone on parole for conviction of a felony

• Anyone who will be under 18 on election day

• Anyone who has been judged by a court to be mentally incompetent to be a registered voter

Registered voters who want to vote by absentee ballot must apply for a ballot between Sept. 8 and Sept. 30.

The ballots are no longer restricted to people who are ill or disabled, according to the San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters' office.

Residents can obtain the applications by sending a written request to the Registrar of Voters, County of San Bernardino, 777 East Rialto Ave., San Bernardino, CA, 92415-0770 or by downloading the form at www.sbcrov.com to print and mail.

The deadline to register to vote in the November election is about a month later than the deadline to vote in the recall election. For the Nov. 4 election, voters must be registered by Oct. 20.
