So I have a regular Vector A2 stock that came with my kit...its not a very good one, but its what I have...

I want to make sure the buffer gets in there, but there is nothing to hold it in place...do I need to drill out the insert plate so I can put the buffer in?  If so, what diameter is correct?

Osprey21 is correct, A2 stocks do not need a buffer on them for the MP series rifle. The recoil rod rest in the round indentation in the stock. Only A3 retrctables take the buffer.
