Local shop has a DSA STG58 Para folder with 16" bbl and short FH.  They want $1349 for it.

Good deal?  Any problems with the shorter bbl?

Basically this gun with a 2" shorter bbl:

ETA:  I don't know which type receiver it has, but I don't think it has the carry handle...

I personally wouldn't pay that much. There are better deals all around. DSA makes a fine firearm, but that price is just too much.

I don't care for 16" barrels on rifle chambered for 7.62N/308WIN. But, from a functional point of view, they work as well as the longer barreled rifles.

I'm with maddog on the barrel length. I saw a 16" carbine in a shop. You'll give up, what?, 125 fps over a 21" barrel. With some bullet weights the .308 is comparable to the .30-06. Chop the barrel and you give that up.

Price? I paid more than that for a DSA SA58 standard in the para config. It was worth it to me- no regrets. Isn't for maddog. You? Your decision. Good luck.

you're aware that the STG is made from the surplus receiver right?  it's not the heat treated quality of the new DSA built ones, check the reviews on their site, especially the 10,000 rd torture test.  If I were you I'd get the SA58 base model from Atlantic Firearms for $1300 and then add whatever goodies you want later.  You can get either the 16.25" or 21" barrel for that price.

The dsarms stg rifles are manufactured with the SA58 receivers. Try to hook up with a local FFL for the best price and be patient after ordering.

I hate it when they change the facts on me - lol - when did they switch?  My bad.  Must've run out of the surplus Austrian ones...

Which receiver are y'all talking about? Upper or lower? AFAIK, upper is DSA, lower is Steyr, though with the para configuration the lower may also be DSA. I'd rather have the Stg58 myself, mostly because of the barrel--7.62 NATO chamber with the Steyr vs. .308 with the DSA. But I shoot mil-surp exclusively. A tight .308 chamber with a 16" para strikes me as pretty useless.

I don't think that price is too bad, especially for a para (my favorite!). And they don't appear to be in superabundance online--I looked around and most everyone is out of stock. I did manage to find one, though, and it's currently heading my way--I'm trading it outright for another rifle, so can't really compare prices.

yeah,  all  DSA's  use  their own upper receivers

it's the STG58's  that use the surplus Steyr lowers

BUY IT !!

I plan to, just as soon as I can afford it.

+1 on that advice

I ordered a type II receiver on 2/17/06 at dealer cost and it is finally delivering tomorrow!
I've been going nuts waiting for it.

Ditto, considering every para I've actually seen has an 18" barrel....

I have one of these with an 18" barrel; I ordered it with no carry handle cut, replaced the handguards with imbels and the cocking handle with a folding version. I paid about $50 less. Worth every penny.
