Stupid mistake. I had it open and was cleaning/oiling it. The bolt/carrier was out. I reached over to pick up the gun. The way I picked it up, the top came down and latched shut. So... How do I opener back up now that the take down button doesn't work?

Sorry if I miss named some parts. New FAL owner.

Try the frame locking lever. Refer to schematic item #71. This is the only way I know to open it.

ETA: How did you initially get it open?

Sorry, that's what I was refering to as the "takedown button."

The frame locking lever is not functional anymore. With the bolt carrier in there, the lever is kinda bumped out and when you press it you can open up the gun. But now that it is closed without the bolt carrier in there, the lever is kind of flush. It doesnt realy push in anymore.

Try removing the pivot pin. I'm not sure how the bolt carrier would have any affect on the take down lever.

I just removed the bolt from my FAL and was able to close and open it by pushing my vertcle frame lock lever to the rear. Hopefully someone else chimes in with advice.

I couldn't quite comprehend what you were talking
about . So I tried closing my DSA SA58 without the
bolt carrier installed . It makes no difference on mine
as to how the latch works

The pin extending on the rear of the bolt assy
only contacts the recoil spring in the butt stock
and has nothing to do with the latch .

Well fuck me...

I could have sworn that I pushed the lever in to unlock the frame. Guess not, it pulled right back and opened up.

Chalk this one up to only having the rifle for a day and not knowing what I'm going yet.

haha, thanks.

Are you talking about my picture ??

Hell I was a little embarrassed that it's as dirty as it is
in the pic . Trust me ... It's no virgin .

It's even drawn blood , unfortunately it was my own .
After I made the mistake of grabbing it by the muzzle brake
to keep it from falling off the bench after a couple of hundred
quick rounds
