On another forum a member posted that 7.62 NATO cases for machine guns and cases that were to be linked, had thick case walls then the standard issue 7.62 NATO round. I've never heard that. I was on a site providing info on all the ammo variations and it had no mention of that, but it did show that all the ammo variations could be fired in the M14. Can anyone shed some light (and proof) about this? Thanks

Possibly mistaking machinegun fired LC brass is usually oversize and a pain to resize. Combination of a "generous chamber" in the machinegun and thick LC brass.

All Lake City 7.62x51mm brass is thicker. Current lots of M118LR are a little lighter than standard M80 ball, but most LC 7.62 weigh close to 180 unprimed.

Winchester brand commercial .308 can weigh as little as 155 grains unprimed. All other brands run between these two extremes.

Reduce powder charges two (2.0) full grains when loading Lake City 7.62x51mm brass.

Yes internet be they made million ( billions more like it) of m80 ball and equivalent ammo throughout NATO. Some went into stripper clips some into boxes and some
Into links. No difference what so ever.
