I felt it was my duty to let you guys know that there is a large Checkmate M1A/M-14 Magazine Group Buy going on here:

www.m-14forum.com/showthread.php?t=19557

I am not affiliated with these guys.  Can't beat the $20 per magazine price.

I am not the biggest fan of thier pistol mags...
No experience with the rifle mags though.
Any input on the quality?
We could try to do the same here with Armalite...

I'd like to buy about 6 good GI quality mags. If these checkmate mags meet that standard, I'd like to know and buy some. If they don't, I'd enjoy being part of a mag but here.

The Checkmate M1A mags are currently being used in the ME right now.  From what I hear, they are as good, if not better than the USGI magazines out there.

They are ok mags, not as good as older ones IMOP. We had quite a few problems with the CheckMate 1996 contract mags in our SG M14's & NM M14's.

These are the current "USGI" production. They have passed preliminary judgement at M-14 forum. At 20.15 per I am in for 5.

Truthfully, I have heard the contrary.  The forum mods have gotten a sample mag, and feel that it is at least the same quality as a USGI one.

There's other supporting evidence (first hand user experience from civilians and from a 2004-2005 OIF soldier equipped with the M14 and these magazines in the sand box) that gives me the confidence to participate in this group buy.  I'm also the one that examined the 2006 production sample for the group buy.

Check-Mate Industries M14 magazines are made to the requirements of the USGI technical data package.  This is their third contract for making USGI M14 magazines.  I've read the 09/05 Rock Island Arsenal contract CMI was awarded.  Myself and others report excellent service with CMI ten round M14 magazines.  I'm satisfied the quality is there.

This thread is the only discussion I'm aware of personally where someone with first hand experience relates a less-than-stellar performance for CMI twenty round M14 magazines.  The Rawles FAQ on M14 magazines references Fulton Armory on the CMI 1990-1991 twenty rounders which makes it third hand.

All that having been said, myself and dozens of other buyers will be testing them shortly.  Then we will know beyond the shadow of a doubt.
