Hate to do this, but need to get rid of one of my M1 Garands. Never shot it in the two years I've owned it from CMP. Barrel is "middle of the road" with a small ding in the muzzle (does not appear to be into the rifling).

Ballpark figure what this is worth? Wife says if I want more car parts for the 4runner, sell something.

Really need more info.

Was it a greek? Rack? ID on all parts?

Condition of stock?

Finish, original, repark, Greek Black?

Barrel readings: MW, TE?

Lazy guys seem to like pay double on the private side for the price one can be bought by anyone just for filling out paperwork at CMP.

YMMV.

Unlikely it is a Greek if it's from two years ago. Knowing the grade the CMP sold it as would help greatly in determining value.

I have a CMP greek HRA from 2004. It is not finished in "Greek Black" or in greek wood.
If I didn't tell you it was from the batch of greek returns to the CMP you would never know it wasn't a regular service grade.

On selling it... You will have to decide. Do you want to sell it fast or spend your time explaining why it's worth more than an SA racker and waiting for the right buyer to agree with you.

I am curious if the barrel and receiver belong together:

Hope someone can help with this:

receiver: H&R 5662xxx
barrel: HRA 6535448 7-55 RS62

Also what looks like a punch mark after the RS62 and then there's a very small eagle stamp.

Anybody know what all this means? Thanks again.

5662xxx obviously is S/N.

The barrel markings indicate HRA manufacture in July 1955, the RS62 is the heat treatment lot number.
Punch mark, IIRC, is a hardness test, and the eagle stamp is an acceptance stamp showing it met military acceptance criteria.

I would guess that it is the orig. BBL/Rec. combo. I have a 5.7 HRA with an early 56 barrel that I'm sure is original.

So if this is the original barrel/receiver combo, how much is this worth? Or not that big of a deal? Thanks.

It was most likely a rack grade by your description.

You should be able to get $500 if it is a looker and you walk it around the next gunshow.

If the stock is rough and the metal has finish wear, maybe less.

The HRAs that are hot now are the all matching with pristine proper stock, and low MW and TE readings.

The "Greek black" HRAs are not real popular at this time.
