I recently picked up a H&R garand that looks to have been rebuilt and then put in storage. excellent finish rifling etc... However when I went to zero it the rear site is several clicks up for battlezero. The peep is high enough that I'm concerned about it getting broken if the gun ever falls over. Is the front site too high? can I get a shorter one?

I have a winchester garand that does not have this problem. The peep is at it's lowest point for battlezero. (and I mite add the elevation clicks are right on the nuts!!)

Thanks for your input..

How many clicks up are you on your battle zero?  Your battle zero is your 300 yd. minus two clicks I think.
