Thank you, you too!!  I thought about gushing over your 1911 but was afraid someone was going to say "get a room".  LOL.  That is a nice pistol.  Man you gots nice, historical stuff.  I really would love one like that but don't have the money for it.   I have a few guns that are an homage to my Grandpa but a USGI 1911 would really take the cake.  Although I wouldn't mind a 1917 or Victory either.  In fact I think I'd rather have a Victory over all of them.  Just because I think I would enjoy shooting it the most.

I have no documents to know what exactly he carried.  But it could've been any of them.  Since he was a Sgt. in a Rifle squad, infantry.  2nd ID.  23rd IR, Easy Company.   Thompson, Garand, Carbine, I would assume he shot a bolt gun in either training and maybe even after that.  Grease gun?  That one seems less likely but who knows.  I think I read a TOE once that showed the buck sgt actually carrying an 03 with the grenade launcher..........   But I think a Sgt would typically have a sidearm maybe?  And in France my guess is it would've been a 1911A1.

But God I would love to know what he carried.  I'd be tempted to sell almost every gun I had to own the ones he actually used.  But more than likely the ones I have probably cover it (rifles).  Well, maybe not.   I would keep a few handguns for carrying besides those though.......

Oh that's going to be hot when you get it.  Please post pics!!!!  I think I heard you're scoping it too, eh?

That's gonna be a nice rifle for sure.  It is now too.

On another note, I don't know if it's just the pick but your stock looks like it needs some oil........

Nice M1A and Sig there!  Is that a West German P226?

Never seen Lockbar sights on an M14 type rifle before.  Those come off a M1 Garand?

1.  It is.   It's an old Police trade in.
2.  Yes, they are Garand lock bar sights.  This receiver shipped from Springfield Inc. in May of 1980 as a stripped receiver.  It was built up with USGI National Match parts, including a '76 dated Saco-Lowell medium contour National Match barrel.  The one part that's not NM is the sight drums.  They're old Garand Lock Bar sights.  The front sight and rear apeture are NM, but from what I'm told, back when this rifle was assembled, NM sight parts were tough to find, so many that built M1A's used Garand sights.  Dunno, I was 11 when this receiver left the factory.  All I know is that the muzzle and TE are outstanding on this rifle, and "Charlene" is quite the shooter.  I picked her up about 2006 or so from a local shop for $800, including 8 mags, a hard case, two stocks, a Springfield scope mount with Bushnell 3x9 scope, sling, and cleaning kit.  I almost ripped my pants getting my wallet out, and the guy behind me was hovering over my shoulder waiting for me to put it down so he could claim "Dibs".  It had arrived in the shop and was put out earlier that morning.....luckily my sales call for the day brought me a block away from that shop. :)

I don't think they looked to see there were NM parts all over this thing.  Anyway, Springfield said it was sold as a bare reciever 5/80, so it was built by a shooter, who obviously didn't shoot this one all that much :-D

Change of plans- picked up a YHM Phantom Ti 5.56, which freed up an AAC 762-SD for my M1A Socom 16:

That was an awesome buy on that rifle!  I had a M14 type rifle built up using a forged Semi Auto receiver, USGI parts, and some NM sights, cost me much more than $800.

Looks great.  I was 8 then.  You got me beat.

Great pics too.  I was gonna say great price, but when you get into ones that were built up, you never know what you're going to get.  So that might be why it was priced lower.  But I'm sure if it was put together properly, it's good to go.  Could've been someone very reputable and knowledgeable put it together.
