SA with National Match SS bbl, NM trigger group, NM op rod, and the rest is all USGI parts.
Super Sniper 16X scope. ARMS #18 mount & #22M rings. Just had the QD stud put on so I could mount the Harris bipod. This thing is awesome on prairie dogs and 'yotes out past 300 yards.  |

Yep, you can. I have one, obviously. You shove the cheekpiece down so that it is against the comb and you can shoot with irons just fine. |

Thanks bigbore. Now if only I could figure out you did that I'd be good to go. Actually I think I may be starting to get the hang of this. I posted another pic in the general discussions fourum using tinypic and it seemed to be simpler to use than imageshack. Simpler for a computer moron like me anyway.

It was worth the effort, your M1A is a nice looking rifle! I like them simple like yours. EagleArms: Your M1's look good. You could allways have one of them fixed up if you wanted to. I had got my first M1, a 3-44 service grade SA M1 from DCM back in 1994. I left it alone for a year or so then had it redone as a NM Service rifle, new laminated stock and refinish the metal. This past Summer the bug bit again and I got a 9-55 HRA Greek Rack Grade, I felt it needed sprucing up and had it rebarreled, reparkerized, NM sights installed and a high grade walnut stock installed. It is a beaut now too. I just can't seem to leave them alone! The M1 is a fine American Battle Rifle and it is up to us to preserve this item of firearms history for our children and their children, etc. I would be most proud to have my grandchildren admire and shoot my M1's some day. |

that was a greek rack grade. I ordered two one was clean and the other was like the photo. I know they did not test fire that rifle. it was pluged with nasty grease. the te is around 2 and the muz is a 1. the rilfe is the third one in the photo with the nagant and m-14. the bottom is the other. the handguard (lower) was new and the upper was a cracked piece of junk. the butstock was in good shape. the finish is awsome no wear at all. I figure it would be ok. I picked up a winchester service grade at the nationals last year, and when I got it home and cleaned and inspected it I found it was out of headspace. win/ with win bolt. changed it out with a h&r bolt i had on hand and it works fine. I also picked up a remington 1903 while I was there and it too was covered in the same grease. it looks new. scant c stock and 0 muz and 0 te. for the price not a bad deal.

 I added a M1952A Flack Jacket, 15rds of 1968 dated WCC 7.62mm(15 rounds because of NJ) , a USGI Steel Pot, my Fathers National Defense Medal, his Good Conduct Medal, his Expert Rifleman badge and a pair of his boots. My Father served from 1965-1967 Active duty US ARMY. He was lucky he did not go to Vietnam. A few years ago I bought a Loaded SA M1A put a Fred's M14 stock on it and he said it looked just like the on he has in 1965. Well 40 years ago this summer his Uncle Sam told him get his ass down to FT Dix for a fun filled summer of running in the hot sand for his Basic Training. |

Now that's a sweet little rifle. I can't decide if my next M14 clone is going to be one like yours or a traditional rack grade variant. What is the Aimpoint mounted on? Is that the SA scout rail?

I needed some new wallpaper so I got out the SA service grade I got form the CMP last summer and did a photo shoot. It was made in August of '41 and re-barreled in July of '44, all parts are SA but I have not run the numbers to see if they have the correct drawing numbers for year of manufacture.
The finish is pretty good and the stock is just like I got it. The front handguard has a dent on the right side from sometime in the past. No markings on the stock at all and it looks like a semi-gloss type finish. The medals belonged to my father who received them while serving in the 102 Division, 405 Regiment during the Rhineland campaign during the push into Germany across the Roer river. He was wounded in the leg and never would talk about the bronze star. Like most of them he just thought he was doing his duty. Although he carried a Thompson I think he would approve this picture of a M1. Sadly the flag was from his funeral on Dec 3, 1998. RIP Dad.

Sorry left the text out.
Copied this off the SA Scout/Squad, few changes for my ego. LRB receiver, GI parts, 18" medium match barrel, Vortex flash hider and HK style front sight, GI stock with filled cutout, Aimpoint in GGG mount. Special part is the pic rail up front. The SA S/S and SOCOM use a pic block that bolts together in two halves. Mine has a flat spot milled on the barrel and is drilled and tapped x 3 to hold the rail on. The work for the pic rail was done by Marty, owner of Badger Ordnance. The rest was done by GA Precision. OOPPS, add some Krylon and a Spyder Mesh veil to the list for the camo job. Steve. |
