I'm looking to buy my first M1A. Any suggestions on what the best one to buy is and what to look for in features. Thanks in advance.

look for a springfield, and get an older one with all usgi parts

ps, and if you cannot do that it really will not matter, all springfields have a lifetime warranty, so get a used one, you may be able to get one for 100 or less if you are lucky and look
