Interesting placement of the 590a1 rollmark, never seen one that low on the receiver before

After a year of waiting, initiating an IA complaint, and redundant paperwork with a local Sheriff's Dept, I finally got my NIB Super Shorty. And it just so happens that Mark Serbu stopped making them a few months ago.

Replaced the grip with a Hogue recoil tamer, added a Vancomp dome safety and machined follower.

I was moving things around in my safes and realized I hadn't taken a family photo of my SBS collection in awhile.  The 12.5" 870 in front is technically an AOW.  The rest in order of barrel length L to R . . .
870 Marine 14" with 8" Salvo
870 Wingmaster 14"
Moss 590 14"
Saiga 12 11.5"
Stoeger Coach 11.25"
870 Special Field 10.5"
870 Tactical Breacher 9.75"

Fantastic collection

Can you tell me about the brake on the saiga? Factory or what?
Also, is the Breacher 9.75 still produced?

The S-12 brake comes from Dinzag Arms.  I got it as part of a kit that converted the whole front end to an AKM style config that takes standard AKM handguards.  He doesn't appear to sell that kit any more, but the 74 style brake is available HERE.

The 870 Breacher is mostly custom made.  I scrounged around on the web and found the mostly unobtanium short MCS forend.  I also found a shortened 870 barrel (can be found HERE) that already has the mounting lug moved rearward toward the receiver.  I then sent an old 870 plus these parts to Josh at Cotton Branch Custom Firearms and he did the rest including threading the barrel for chokes.
Here are some variations of how I can run this shotgun.  The first pic shows it with the short Hogue stock which I like best at the current moment.

@yamadog35

Can you please post more info about the 870 Special Field 10.5"?

I picked up a used special field with the intent to sbs it but I haven’t got around to it yet.

Glad to . . . I found a nice used special field that was in wonderful shape.  I got a local gunsmith to chop the barrel and chop/cleanup the rib (re-blued the bare metal).  He also threaded for chokes.  The point at which the rib was cut down just happened to be where there was already a mid-barrel bead site so I didn't have to add that.  You'll note that my finished SBS doesn't have the English style stock that normally comes on a Special Field.  I wanted the look of a traditional Wingmaster stock so I found one that had color and finish very close to the factory forend.   I shortened the stock slightly so it looked a little better in proportion to the shorter barrel and action.  The action is silky smooth.

Picture thread so here are a couple more . . .

Beautiful, thanks for sharing. The one I picked up doesn’t have the original wood unfortunately. PO put on synthetic furniture.

It will still make for a good SBS, but I love the look of the wood on a traditional blued shotgun.  Note that I have the factory English style stock that I took off mine.  If you were to find a Special Field wood forend, I would be open to passing along my stock.

Wow, that would be cool! I’ll keep that in mind if I’m able to find a forend. Thanks!

I bought this 870 years ago with the intentions of turning it into an SBS but life got in the way and it sat in the gun safe until the last couple of months.

I see myself building a more “tactical” SBS in the future.

-Remington Express 870 cut to 14”
-Wilson combat one shell extension
-Wilson combat jumbo safety
-Trijicon ghost ring sights
-Threaded for rem chokes

Nice pic from Brownells today:
Someone needs to make a integrally-suppressed SBS with a 10" barrel and can, including an extended mag tube that goes through the can.  Like my red addition below.  So you get suppression and still a decent capacity (6ish+) within a 16" package.

Does the salvo have to be vertical?  Could it offset to the 3 or 9 o’clock allowing an extended tube?

Man, I'm usually going to be okay with an ugly gun, but that might be a step too far.

I would think that you would end out melting shells in the mag tube and decreasing the spring's life by heating it.

whew fresh swap after getting the form 1.

getting the hogue forend took a little sand dremeling in it to fit over the barrel lug. also the shockwave grip bolt is too short to use in the stock so had to get another one.

Total non-issue. A thin vacuum insulated section would be the ideal solution and add minimal cost to such a build.
