Interested in the heavy-ish barreled predator version in 223 / 556.

I want something for informal paper punching.  I'm looking at this or an RRA Predator Pursuit.  Is the Ruger competitive with the RRA in terms of accuracy?  If not, what is realistic with the Ruger?  I will be working up my own handloads.

I can tell you that my Ruger American rifle ranch model chambered in 300blk is a tac driver. I'd imagine the predator series to be no different. It has handled everything from 110gn to 220gn hand loads and is more accurate than I am.

I have the predator in 308, but, it is right at MOA at 100. I cant really measure results further than that because I use a 5 power scope with dot in the center of the crosshairs. I have no issue at 700 meters on a 2/3 IPSC. Normally 100% hits if wind stays below 15mph (still working on reading the wind).

I love these guns. Planning on a Boyds stock to make it a bit better.

I have a regular Ruger American .308 that's right at 1 MOA with basic handloads (nothing fancy like neck turned cases, match bullets, or competition dies).  The only modification I made to it was sanding the barrel channel in the stock to prevent contact with the barrel.  The major downside of the normal American is the super thin barrel that heats up quickly so it doesn't stay 1 MOA for long.

I bet you could get less than 1 MOA with the heavy barrel American in .223.  Just be aware that the American is a budget rifle, the plastic stock is flimsy, and the mags are way overpriced for what they are.  I guess what I'm saying is while the Americans are accurate enough and I'm happy with mine, don't expect the American to have the solid feel and overall quality as a higher priced gun.

I have had five of them and still have four. The four i still have are .308P, .223P, 6.5cmP, ranch 5.56, all five of them would do moa and under with hands loads. The only reason i got rid of the .243 was that i  like the 6.5cm more. This is with simple, (cheap) 3-9x40 glass on them.

One inch group (3 shots0 out of a cold barrel with my American in .270 this afternoon. First time I have shot anything since shoulder surgery last April. So I was a little flinchy and it hurt. A lot.

My Walmart clearance $199 RAR in .30-06 shoots 1.5" groups with Federal Fusion. I'm confident once I drop a Vortex scope on it (now wearing a thick duplex cheapie Bushnell Sportsview I had laying around) and work up some handloads it will shoot MOA or better. I forgot how punishing light rifles are. Shot 50 rnds of .338 Lapua without an issue and then zeroed this thing up on Friday. The 6 rnds to zero and remaining 14 I shot at steel out to 400 left a good bruise!

My 243 gets 1 inch suppressed and 1 inch unsupressed.  762sdn6.  75gr vmax....58gr vmax.   105 Amax still testing...no groups but took it out to 800yd with relative ease.  Excited to shoot it more.

All handloads.

Boyds prairie varmint stock.
Viper hs 4x16
20moa rail.

Had a chance to play with my ranch in 223/556 this weekend.

Every time I shoot it I'm amazed at how accurate it is for the $... 300ish rifle, $99 bushnell 4-12 I picked up from PSA, $180 build cost form 1 titanium freeze plug can (just because its fun to tacticool) and inexpensive Geco 55 grain ammo.

I have a 4"x8" plate that we hit with ease at 300 yards and had about 80% success with at 500. Factoring, wind, cheap ammo, cheap scope and that 3 different shooters played with the rifle I would say we did pretty good accuracy wise.

It's funny to think that I might have about $1k  into an AR (without glass) that gets me MOA with the right ammo, every once in a while sub MO.  And I can probably achieve the same accuracy with a $300 bolt gun.   And I'd probably have more fun shooting the bolt gun.

My Ruger American Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor w/ 16.75" barrel and Sico Omega will shoot right around 1 MOA with Hornady American Gunner 140gr BTHP.  Groups are typically 4 rounds since that is what the mag holds.

I have a Ruger American 7mm-08 - 22" with a muzzle break shooting the hot Remington 140 gr core-lokt loads and get phenomenal accuracy out of it. It's sighted in at 100 yards for deer hunting but for Elk I would sight it farther out.

This is precisely the conclusion that I came to.  I tried to wring out every bit of accuracy I could from an AR platform with expensive match bullets and only did so so.  I own the American in .308 and the American predator in 6.5 creedmoor.  Both do effortlessly what it takes a lot of work and money to get an ar to do.  I have since decided to let AR's be what they are.  That is a battle rifle lethal out to 300 yards.  If I really want to reach out and touch something I use one of my sub $400 rifles with the $200 scope.  The only thing better is my new RPR in 6.5 with Athlon scope.

I just picked up a predator in 6mm Creedmore, the dealer couldn't get rid of it since everyone wants the 6.5. I got it for $350. With the only two loads I could find for it, it's hanging right around half MOA. It's a very impressive offering for the money. The only thing I don't like is the stock and mag.

Shot my new .308 predator for the first time today to get it zeroed. This is my first bolt gun and it came with the packaged cheap vortex scope. After getting close with some pmc xtac ammo I switched to my hunting round. Hornady 178gr eld-x and was able to repeatedly place 3 rounds in one touching hole at 100yds.

I am thinking of the Predator in 6.5 Creedmoor.  I was looking at the Thompson Compass, but the shoulder on those is a bit off and I shoot suppressed.  I would love to get one in 6.5 Grendel.  My AR Grendels shoot awesome.

I used to have the Ruger American Predator in .243 Win.  It was very accurate with decent ammo.  It shot right around 1 MOA very consistently.
