Looks like ThePitt is up next, I'll get the bit out to Pitt on Monday morning (need an address). Sending an IM now. Thank you all for sharing. Bishop3 |

I just did this the other day with a regular bit.
My advise is to wait for the pass around bit. I had a fresh regular bit and it still took about 10min of struggling to free the weld. I had planned to use the vertical mill at my job but decided working on gun parts there would be poor judgment. |
|
So based on the above responses, it looks like Wahoo9532 is next?
Still waiting for the bit (haven't had a chance to see if it came today), but want to make sure I have the contact info for the next person... |
|
It's Wahoo95.....
Anybody tracked how many miles that drill bit has covered...LOL |
|
I have a bit available to ship asap. Who's up?
Buck_Naked did you send one off to Wahoo95 yet? If thats the case I'm gonna be requesting your address RandomGuy1911A1. |
|
Is there any way to just snap the welded part of the screw and then replace the screw?
|
|
PM received from wahoo95. Looks like the bit i have will be going to him.
|
|
I have seen a video where someone was able to just snap the screw at the weld and actually retain the screw for usage. I tried it with mine but can't get it.
Address sent to both that requested for shipping. |

Dont want bith bits going to one guy. |

Just replied to both... I ran into some issues with the allen head stripping out...
I will be sending this off to Wahoo tonight or more likely tomorrow, and will update him once I have it in the mail. Anyone else, be aware that the 3MM allen head appears to be pretty soft and strips easily... |

Mine was welded on there (collar, sleeve) good, I drilled nearly the entire 'depth of the collar' before it broke loose. I was careful and it took about 15 minutes for me. Yours may even be easier coming off. Patience with a drill motor and it will work fine.

I'll throw my name into the mix, got a carbine that needs to be removed so I can install my HB parts.

What's the spec for a replacement screw? View Quote Trigger housing screw spec is M4x0.7 - 10mm. The thread pitch is M4x0.7, and the length of thread is 10mm. There is a little room between the hammer and the top of the screw when installed, so if you get to the store and all they have is 12mm long screws, no need to stress, that will work too. If you get up into the 14,15,16mm range though you will need to cut it shorter before installing. And 8mm will be too short (not enough to engage the threads in the sheetmetal trigger housing. Hope this helps... Not all hardware stores will have M4x0.7 - 10mm screws either. In talking to customers it seems like "regional" availability is a definite issue... Some have found these screws at Lowes or HomeDepot or Menards, but most of the time Ace hardware stores are a better bet. Not all of the big box stores seem to carry the same selections between states, so it is really hit or miss... |

I found the replacement screws at Lowes..... (2) for $0.80. I like the larger button head which isn't as prone to stripping. http://<a href=http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb244/a996hawk/20160725_203713_zpsnvq54fxo.jpg</a>" /> View Quote What's your PayPal? Thanks, Cal Package is in the mail to TravinH. I've included a few extra screws which can be passed along with the bit for people to use if their strips out. Thanks to everyone for participating in this as that bit definitely made getting that screw out easy compared to the standard bit I tried to use previously. |

Could I get this done with an el cheapo drill? I may have asked this in another thread but cannot remember. (Been a long week)

Ok cool I guess I'll see if I can find the screw at HD or lowes then add myself to the list.

I included 4 extra screws with the bit for anyone that can't find them locally.
Key to using the bit is to let it do the work and not force it. A drop of oil also makes a difference. So you should be fine with an inexpensive drill. |

View Quote seriously, that weld bead is no joke. for anyone reading this, it CAN be done with a regular drill, but it's gonna be a huge PITA, and you may cause more damage than anything else. idk what that weld bead measures in terms of rockwell, but i know it's serious shit. |

Yea I quit while I was ahead. I didn't wanna screw anything up.
