716I topic of the week for me...
Can you or have you removed your muzzle device without the use of a reaction rod or vise or similar product? When I removed my factory Flash Hider, I had a buddy sit on the gun and I gave it a good push, no accuracy issues and no gas block alignment issues. Am I an idiot? What reaction rod works with the 716I or 716G2? I recieved my taper mount from SIG a while back and I find myself wondering if my SureFire ProComp install even needs it, it appears to be aligned properly and I've had no performance issues. Plus my gun is right at 1-1.5MOA with certain rounds and I don't want to mess things up. I have an average trigger so for me, I consider these results an achievement. I will most likely add it anyways. So this weekend I am taking out my 716I, 716G2, 516G2 & M400 Switchblade. I need to zero and then break in all of them a bit except the 716I, it's coming for fun. What preparations do you make prior to your range trips? |

I’m about to switch out the flash hider for one compatible with Rugged suppressors and was thinking to use a barrel vise block. Any reason this wouldn’t work to keep things from twisting vs. a reaction rod? Sounds like you’re getting great results with your setup and I’d probably be hesitant to make any changes too. Do you use any break in procedures for your Sigs? Sounds like a fun weekend you have in store ETA: any luck on finding a bore guide for the 716i? |

The Midwest Industries reaction rod does not fit the 716i. 2. I held my receiver in a vise with HDPE No Mar blocks to removed the factory muzzle device with no ill-effect. 3. I initially had my YHM mount installed without the taper adapter with no ill-effect. It threaded right down to the taper, and was square. It probably could have stayed like this and never had an issue, but I knew it just wasn't right, even if it wasn't wrong, so I had to fix it for my own peace-of-mind. |

No reaction rod yet and Ex_Sanguine_Nation tried a few options on page 1 or 2 of this thread but didn't seem like any did fit. @Ex_Sanguine_Nation I am gonna do exactly what you did and remove and reapply. I will call SIG and ask about the reaction rod. Take Care. |

ETA: THESE have gotten me through some tough spots with weird shaped receivers, handguards, etc. It fit the large frame SIG, too - you just can't use the pins, but they are superfluous. I didn't have it on very tight so it was pretty easy to remove my ProComp without to much effort. My crown had a ridiculous amount of carbon buildup and after my best efforts to clean it off, it still looks a bit shitty. My particular barrel does appear to be hard chromed and if it's not, I can live with whatever it is because the SOB shoots great. I took some pics of my barrel crown bare and after the taper cap install. Can someone please tell me if it looks square. At first I thought I put my crush washer on backwards but In the end I think I got it done properly.

I believe your barrel is nitrided based on your prior muzzle post, and the shiny outer surface of the barrel.
I’m pretty confident Gen 1 used a carbon steel nitride barrel with a phosphate bolt carrier group with a chrome gas key and gas chamber. Gen 2 appears to be a stainless barrel with a DLC outer finish and a nitrided bolt carrier group. With Sig who really knows, but that’s what I’d bet my money on from the rifles that have been posted. |

Anyone interested in a slightly used Phase5 CH?
Got mine when they first came out… I ordered while the Sig Ambi was back ordered. I liked the phase5 and never put the Sig CH on once it came. But now I changed out my stock to the Luther Mba… and if I have the check weld up one click where I want it, there is friction with the phase5. So just swapped in the Sig CH… I prefer the width and thickness of the phase5 — more to grab, but as the Sig is thinner, it works with the check weld adj. Probably used the phase5 for about 150 rds. PM me if interested. * Went out yesterday with Luther Mba and really liked it. The stock stock was a bit too minimalist for me. It’s my 4th mod after CH, trigger, and MD… |

So I've never seen the MBA by Luth-AR so when I went to the website there are many, which one do you have? Post some pics of your 716I. In regards to the JP, the silent spring won't work but users have tried different buffer weights and spring types but why do you want to change out? What is your intended use for your 716I? Is it not currently smooth enough for your intended use or did you just want to try other options? Take care and welcome to the forum. |

I drilled the tapered pins then tapped them out with a steel punch and 3 & 1/2 lb hammer. The gas port diameter on my barrel is 0.1376 inches. For those concerned about the gas tube clearing the barrel nut with this gas block: it will and I had no issues. I recommend getting a custom gas tube although the factory gas tube will work. The factory gas tube is 15 and ⅛ inches. I recommend making measurements once the factory gas block is off and go from there. It runs like a champ and cycles well. No FTF, FTE, or anything that made me consider taking it off. Hope this helps. |

I clamped my barrel in a vise and used blocks. SIG really torques the flash hider on there. I torqued a Dead Air flash hider on at 35-40 ft lbs (don't recall which), might be too much for 1/2x28 threads but should be fine for 5/8x24. I did not use Rocksett but Dead Air just says torque.

There is the DMR length rail that some patrols feature but I lucked out. I am actually cool with this setup because it's relatively light with just a RDS/BUIS set up as a Battle Rifle. Having the 716I setup as an SPR allows the 716G2 to be stricly a close quarters heavy hitter for now. I am saving up for a 1-10 Tango MSR or equivalent PA GLx or PLx LPVO that can still give me the freedom to stay close or go long. |
