I have been toying with the idea of getting one of these for a long time, but never could justify it.  Anyway, in looking around it seems that a lot of places are selling the PS90 for LEO/Firefighters only.  What's that about?

The LE/Mil ones are a different SKU. There are plenty of Civ ones out there.

The low prices I was seeing (<$1200 sometimes $1100) were really calling to me, then I notice it is LEO only.  . Much harder to justify a purely fun purchase when it is getting into the realm of the Tavor (another, more practical, gun I "need").

There are plenty of civ versions in the 1200 range. Just watch gunbroker.

But in reality there is absolutely nothing like the 90.
... the Tavor well there are multiple options just like that.  Some even better like the AUG.

I have a x95 and a ps90. They each have there purpose. The ps90 is one that kids and wifes alike can pick up and just have fun with or is easier to pack in a bag for travel. I like both but know each has a role it does well.

If someone wants to sell me one for $900 I have cash in hand.    How long ago were they that price?

I recently bought a new PS90 on Gunbroker for $1,200 that came with a 50-round magazine and it wasn't a law enforcement model.

I know I had to get on a multi month wait list for mine.  I got on the wait list while I was in Afghanistan and then picked it up when I got back.  I should have got on the list for a SCAR as well

Local gun shop had one for sale a year or two ago for 800 out the door. I did look it over but thought it looked kind of cheap and poor quality feel to it. Castings on the aluminum didnt look great and ammo was not cheap. I could reload for it but the round is weak so i didnt buy. It did sell but took a couple weeks.

This is legit, it was back in late 2009 and to make it even better...... There was an FN rebate of about $100 or so going on at the same time for which it was eligible.

I bought mine at this time and SBRd it. It was the only way that made sense to me.

agree.  Mine is SBR'd.  Even with a spectre can it is still tiny.  Mine is my wifes go to firearm in the house.  It is stocked with 50 R&R weapon systems 30 gr HPs doing about 2500 FPS.  She is wicked with it.

Me too. Mine was labeled as a 30rd civ model but came with a 50rd mag. I wonder if that's becoming more typical.

FYI, the 50 and 30 mag springs are the same. Take out the insert, cut and re-glue the base locking side, and woola.

ETA: Oops. Didn't realize this was posted in the FN section.

I've considered it before and I'm considering it now but the ammo cost is what turns me back.

I know people load for it. In fact, one of the dept north of me reload their own ammo but I haven't met anyone who loads for it and none of my liading buddies load for 357sig either.

Quoted:  FN SS197 - $17.99 a box of 50

Federal American Eagle - $14.99 a box of 50

The above prices are from PSA.

A caveat, both of the aforementioned rounds are actually manufactured by Fiocchi and should only be used for practice or training.

SS197 should be hell on varmints.

And, if you buy 10 boxes or more, shipped free...

High ammo price is probably not much of a reason for avoiding the PS90 anymore...
