Pour out a 40, stick a fork in it, whatever your favorite euphemism is.  IWI US is ending production of the original Tavor SAR.

http://lauraburgess.com/iwi-us-phase-original-tavor-sar/

Harrisburg, Pa. (September 2017) – IWI US, Inc., a subsidiary of Israel Weapon Industries (IWI) Ltd., announced today that they will be phasing out the original TAVOR® SAR from their product line.
The TAVOR SAR revolutionized the market for bullpup carbines in the US when it was first introduced in 2013. When the “next generation” TAVOR® X95™ was released in 2016, sales of the original SAR declined as consumers willingly embraced the improvements and upgrades in the X95.
“The market has spoken and it prefers the TAVOR X95”, said Michael Kassnar, VP of Sales & Marketing for IWI US. “We will phase out TAVOR SAR production over the next few months and concentrate on our X95, along with our recently announced TAVOR 7, for the future.”

I liked the SAR better than the X95.  But I guess I have one, so oh well. Tavor 7, here we come!

Seriously - Why?  The X95 is an improvement in every measurable way.

I prefer MY SAR over the X95 any day.  I just got off the phone with IWI US and support will still be continuing for the SAR.

I realize that ugly is as ugly does in the bullpup realm, but the X95 makes Kel-tec products and the FS2000 look good.

More seriously, I prefer the up-front location of the charging handle and the original ergos.  The magazine release was a side-grade, I'm used to the FS2000 mag release so the SAR is pretty similar.  I do have an X95 hammerpack in my SAR.  The initial teething accuracy issues put me off too, though it looks like those got better with time.

I'm just an IT nerd though, without real-world angry-people-shooting-at-me experience.  I do like the hybrid design of the 7, which seems to integrate the best of both worlds.

Were the rumors of the X95 being a step backwards in the accuracy department true?

Would definitely get a X95 in OD green, otherwise.

Original Tavor in 5.56.

X95 in 9mm.

I like 'em both, but the Original was a little more fun mod-ing with an integral light and hand guard.

In my hands the X95 always felt better also.  The AUG feels the best of any of them however.

X95 too ugly to buy over the SAR (add I have a FS2000).

Also too bastardized as a 16" rifle.

I prefer the SAR because it's just an ugly pig...not a hideously ugly pig.

Damn the X95 is hideous!

Welp, there is another one to buy if you have the money. It'll be like the fs2000 in a few years.

This.  It would have cost me the same to upgrade mine as sell it to buy an X95, so I upgraded mine.

I guess that means we're NEVER getting the .300 BO conversion for the SAR

You can get a 18" x95 with lug too. They are basically the same guts in different bodies so parts shouldn't be a problem.

Both my SAR and X95 had poor accuracy the X95 being the worst of the two. I heard the newer X95s don't have this problem. Out of the two I definitely think the X95 is the better of the two in especially in other aspects if they have the accuracy issues worked out.

I had horrible accuracy too with my tavor sar

I was about to dump it when I figured I'd try working up
Different loads for it

Even though it's a 1-7 barrel, I found it shoots 53 and 55 grain
Vmax wonderfully - go figure.

Glad I didn't sell it

Maybe IWI could be convinced to use the obsolete SAR as a basis for a pump action rifle, for those of us trapped in ban states?

I know it won't happen, but a guy has to have dreams!

I have both an X95 (.300 blk) and a Tavor SAR and I find myself so used to the SAR controls, I constantly mess up the mag changes with the X95

meh...  I was unimpressed with the SAR.  It felt like something that came out on the market at the same time as the AUG.  To release a bullpup nearly 30 years after the AUG and have a substantially worse trigger than the borderline awful AUG trigger is pretty impressive.  And worse blowback with a can too.

Good luck on it becoming a collector item, they sold a lot of them in a short time.  At least 10x if not 20x of FS2000.

I've been wondering when this would happen. I imagine they will phase them out for the military market to. I much prefer the looks of the SAR, but I can see it being hard to supply both. Outside of collectors I can't imagine many who will buy a SAR over an X95 these days. Maybe they'll do a small run every few years for the collector types.

You also need to catch the X95 trigger on special from IWI, and the Manticore Buttpad.

Might have to load up on some spare parts, specifically springs.

I prefer the SAR just because of looks, accuracy is a problem with both IWI rifles but then again I don't need a sub MOA gun just a reiliable truck rifle.

Nicer than factory, half as expensive as the Sabra, et al.  It was about $160 on special, and is literally the X95 trigger pack.

I like big butts and I cannot lie......?

Factory buttpad slopes down weird, there's a space for ???? inside the stock at the bottom near the butt hinge.  Recoil dispersal?  I don't know.

They'll still be supported, they're just shifting manufacturing focus toward X95 because most people were buying the X95. SAR is still a great rifle.

I too prefer the SAR.  I like the charging handle location and the grip ergos better.

I get about 2 moa out of mine with wal mart remington bulk pack ammo.  One of he best guns around for shooting unsupported on the move, IMO.  My nephew has the X95.  I was stoked about it until I shot his.  Wasn't all that impressed.

I didnt get that 2moa until i replaced the trigger pack of course.....  something my nephew did not have to do.

Don't get me wrong, I love bullpup rifles. They're a great concept. I have a couple of Steyr Augs and think they're the best 5.56 caliber bullpup rifle there is. But, I was hoping that the Tavor would have made a great addition to my Steyr Augs. It didn't. I got rid of it and am keeping my Augs. I also have a pre paid order pending on the release of a Desert Tech MDR. If Steyr made a 7.62 Nato caliber Aug, I would have one. But, they don't and apparently never will. I tried the KelTec RFB and it was garbage. Got rid of it. I don't like the M17 from K&M and since I didn't like the Tavor SAR, I'm not going to even consider the new Tavor 7. The MDR looks great and has features that even the Steyr Aug lacks (beside 7.62 Nato caliber). I have no intention of ever selling my Steyr Augs. They fill the 5.56 caliber niche for my bullpup rifles. But, I also want a 7.62 Nato caliber bullpup and the MDR looks like the bullpup rifle to fill it.

I hate to say, but I feel like the SAR release was nothing but a money grab. Some socio-economist told them about Americans' tendencies towards instant gratification, and decided to do it for profit.

The X95 had already seen real world use for years before the SAR landed on our shelves. Now, the fact that the SAR is discontinued just further convinces me that this was the case. They could have just went straight to the X95 for a U.S. product, but wanted to get their wallet hooks into people who would buy both, or impatient people who would jump on the SAR and then buy an X95 shortly after.

About 7 to 8 years selling them here before discontinued depending when they actually stop that’s not a horrible run.

The thing is the gun is an amalgamation of US and Israeli parts. Most likely I’d wager that foreign orders for the original style are gone their military has gone to the x95 for further orders and with the crap US firearms market right now they don’t want to keep making all the parts for them just for a very small US market. The really important parts barrel bolt carrier group trigger pack even the gas tube I think are interchangeable between the x95 and SAR so it’s not like parts will be unavailable. If they pumped and dumped it then discontinued it and support a year or two latter I’d agree with you but i don’t agree with your conclusion.
