Just got a Rossi 44 mag 16 inch barrel for cheap. I need some loads for cast and powder coat 240 grain semi wad cutters, don't  want max just some mild loads for plinking. How will it stand up to some 300 grain cast bullets got about 100 or so left over from my super red hawk days sure miss that gun.

Is it the Rossis that have a pretty slow twist?  Might be better suited to lighter bullets.  My .357 doesn't care for 200 grainers.  I think they all have the same 1:30 rifling.  If I remember correctly.

Slugging the barrel tomorrow.  Fairly  new model BRAZTECH MANUFACTURER. Barrel is already tapped for a rail mount just need to find one. Eyes are not as good as they were. May put a red dot on it.

My standard plinking load was a 240 SWCL or RN sitting on 8gr Unique, if the bullets are very hardcast use 10gr. But be sure they are not sized too small or you will get gas cutting and lead build up. I sized mine .4305" and only had a bit of powder fowling.

Any cast bullet data should work fine.

IIRC I loaded some 200's in 44spl for a SS Puma. They were stupid light using Hodgdon Clays. They were very accurate too.

If you don't care about top rifle performance simply use cast pistol data. Most of it is the same but there is some slight differences mostly to take advantage of the longer rifle barrel.

When you compare 44mag data head to head pistol/rifle you'll find very little difference in the data but most often the rifle has a velocity advantage. Sometimes a very significant velocity advantage.

As a rule, semi-wadcutters don't run well in lever guns.

I have a braztech made about 2 years ago.
Twist rate is 30 inch.  Mine stabilizes 300gr XTP and 270gr cast bullets at subsonic velocities just fine.  Supersonic should be no problem.
I cast range scrap and powdercoat the 270gr and size to 0.430 with no leading in barrel or silencer at subsonic velocities.

Years ago, I had a Winchester 94 trapper 16"

I loaded up my favorite 44 plinker, a 240grSWC, 6.5gr231

It was so quiet, I was worried about squibs

chrony'd them, and they were about 1050fps IIRC.  GTG

sadly,  . . I sold that gun, or traded it.

Now I have a 16" 357 rossi 92

It likes RNFP better than SWC, unless I use 38 special brass.

Looking into getting the peep sight to try. First loads were 240 powder coated gas checked and 8 grains unique. Shot five five shot groups most were under  2 inches  but about 3 inches  high at 25 yards with rear sight bottomed out. Will shoot at 50 later this week. 300 grain flat point is to long to feed, shot five by single loading. These are not easy on the shoulder.
