I recently shot a long range match and won a Sierra Bullets gift card and some other stuff.

The gift card is you get $500.00 dollars in bullets (free freight) for $250.00. So I'm forced to spend money to use it which is fine.

Anyway I am a Hornady fan so I'm not sure what bullets to get. I have lots of ARs, but find myself shooting far more precision rifle stuff.

I have a Rem 700 .223 Tac in a magpul stock with 10 rd AICS mags. 20in barrel 1-9 twist. This gun gets very little play time so I was thinking some bullets for this maybe..........

Any suggestions?

I love shooting long range so i'm thinking something heavier.

Thanks.

No finer bullet than the 69gr SMK or TMK.

With your twist rate you can not go heavier to the 77/80/90gr

1/9 is not guaranteed to stabilize anything heavier than 69 grains. Some will, some won't. I wouldn't take a chance on a large purchase to find out they don't work in your barrel.

Sierra 52/53 grain match king bullets hammer from any twist rate barrel you shoot them through. I get under 1" groups at 100 yards with 1/7 twist barrels on a routine basis. 69 grain bullets are a better choice for shots past 200 yards.

65 grain Game King bullets are a hunting option, very accurate from AR-15's.

60 grain hollow-point .224" bullets are a great general purpose bullet for use in .223. I love Sierra bullets but haven't bought that many lately simply because I purchased a large volume of Hornady match bullets in bulk. I still use Sierra bullets when I shoot tournaments.

Buy your bullets in 500 bullet boxes, they are discounted slightly for doing so. I always shop Widener's, Powder Valley, Midsouth Shooter's Supply, Graf and Sons and a few others before placing an order.

I was thinking about going with the 69gr TMK.

Maybe I'll go with the 52gr SMK.

I've got a bit to decide.

any sierra bullet will be top quality

they have very high standards

if you visit them, you can buy buckets of blems...good bullets...but not perfect

I'd go with the 69gr TMK and work up a load over 8208XBR before finding a PRS match to challenge yourself with 69gr .223

I won similar prize once, i ordered 300g 338 Lapua projectiles and traded them for a boatload of smaller projectiles.

I have very good results with the 69 gr Match King.

Not hard to get 10 shots under an inch at 100 yards.

If somewhere between 24.7-25.3gr of Varget in prepped cases with Rem 7.5 primers is not 0.5 MOA or better it is gun or the shooter!

You might want to reread that coupon.  If it is a $500 coupon, you get can get 1k worth of bullets iirc. Also there are so.e restrictions, no blems or bulk boxes (the 500 count boxes are fine though).  Last time I had coupons I got 6k of 175 .308 smk's.

If you go get 22 cal bullets, smk or tmk are good bullets.

I use IMR-8208 XBR and CFE 233 for my loads. I don't use Varget.

So noted but Varget is much more accurate in IMHO
Across a wide variety of platforms!
Been there done that and with the 69 OTM Nirvana is 24.7/25.3gr in that spread with Varget.

Can’t go wrong with 69 SMK or 55 Blitzking bullets for your twist rate. Great bullets. I have also never found a .223/5.56 rifle that didn’t like 25.0 grains of Varget and a 69 SMK, very good shooting load in everything.

Buy some small boxes of Match kings and do some loads with them.  Find which ones work, then use the coupon to load up.

I use Sierra Match Kings for everything.  Punching paper, punching deer, punching prairie dogs.  They work great.

I have a buddy using my 190gr Match Kings to shoot a bear this weekend.  Can't wait for the report.

I have never lost an animal hit with a Match King, even though Sierra says they are not for hunting.

That's a great prize and I wish I had one!

Well after doing some thinking. In going to get some 175gr smks, I've got at good load for these with my .308 that shoots awesome. I went to the hornady 178gr bthp because they were cheaper. The gun is a savage 10fcp in a HS stock. Its a shooter but doesn't get a lot of use. I shoot a ton of 6.5 creedmoor but I'm not going to reinvent the wheel with load development trying a 142smk, even though I'm sure there grest, I'm sticking with ELD-M 140s.

I should also be able to nab a box or two of the .224 cal 69 gr8 tmks for the rem 700.
