By the way, an alternative powder if you're looking for something more modern (i.e. better T sensitivity and the like), is AR Comp. I've had very good luck with AR Comp, and it's pretty similar to 4895 in load density and grain size. I like it because I'm able to get a better load density than I can with something like 8208, and it's a little slower burning than 8208, which I consider on the faster side of the spectrum of Garand powders.
ARComp isn't a great choice for progressives - it's really a rather odd powder, because it's supposed to be tuned for AR's, and it does SHOOT well, but it kind of is a bitch to load for .223 - most of which tends to be loaded on progressives, and it's just a poor metering powder. But I individual load for 30-06, and in that case, large grains work just fine. And AR Comp works really well in my Garand for me. There's no published load data for ARComp for 30-06, much less Garands even. I was advised to just start with it like it's 4895, and tune from there. Which is what I did, with good results.
