Cleaned up my reloading area and loaded 50 .357
|
|
|
Bought some 357 Mag brass from Starline, bought an 8lb of H335 yesterday and may have found an 8lb of Varget today!

Moved into a new house this year. Still reloading in the garage, but I put of some lighting and shelving to better organize the space. It's a tight little area, but the wall mounted shelves will help keep things off the bench.
I'm also eagerly awaiting about 6 lbs of powder for my 300BLK that I need to pick up from my Dad who snagged some H110, CFE BLK, and Lil Gun for me. Mounted up an old Lyman Spartan press for 223 and 300BLK. Waiting on universal primer arm and RCBS primer tube holder that I will try and rig up to replace the broken and missing primer assembly. |
|
|
Loaded 50 more .357 rounds to close out .357 reloading for a while. I should have enough loaded to last me until late winter, when it's my serious reloading season.
Did some organization of the reloading area and now I need to decide which caliber is next for some attention. |

|
Set up the new Primer Pro. I know it has mixed reviews, but I wanted to try it out.
Using up some old CCI 400s the first four tubes had one flipped primer each. After adjusting the plate a little I ran five tubes with no flipped primers. A couple did get stuck between the primer disk and timing disk. It seems to be a fine line between too loose and too tight. Or maybe the variance in depth of the CCIs is at issue. It definitely runs best with >100 primers in the tub. Jury is still out but I’m cautiously optimistic. Also loaded up ~ 300 .223 for some training. |

Sized and primed 50 45 LC today in preparation for the new pistol I ordered.
|
|
|
Picked up 200 pieces of 7.62x39 large primer brass from a new local source. They have more and I’ll be acquiring more. Decapped them and into the FART they went. With everything else in there I’ll probably run it this weekend.
I also picked up my fathers unused 7.62x39 dies today as well. It’s an old, NIB Lee set. Came with both neck expanders. I got lucky on flea bay and picked up an unopened Dillon 550 conversion kit too. I’m all set except for bullets. I’m in no hurry as I’ve got plenty of steel case, but I figured I’d stack supplies when available. |

Shot some 9 and 223, came home with a lot of brass to process.
Got the first batch in the tumbler |

Loaded up about 250 rounds of 9mm before work. Ran out of primed cases or I could've done around 30 more before running out of bullets. Got enough to get me through the next match, but it's time to place an order.

After seeing what my load did at 300 over the weekend, I loaded up 120 more of the 223 69gr Varget loads. Brass and seater die were already prepped so just had to hand prime and weigh out the charges on the Intellidropper, then seat the bullets.

I’ve been working on making some progress with my 5.45 loading project. Over the last couple of days I have sized 50 cases, verified they are within tolerance for length, and hand primed them. Next, I’m going to load a set of test loads in 5 increments of 10 rounds each. Before I get to that, I have to build a new base for my RCBS powder measure stand, as the kludge I had used before turned out to be less stable than it needed to be.

Some nice pulldown 6.5C showed up. The best part is I don’t have to eat into my meager stash of LRP for this project.

Got the ATV4 setup this afternoon.
Loading 10mm as I type this. 8.0gr 800-X under 200gr plated. Attached File I have a thread started with my first impressions and musings. |

A staff member gave me a plastic jug of brass he collected, so I dumped it in the tumbler. Today I sorted it, 30-06, (don't need), .308, (might need in the future), 5.7mm, (will likely never need), 9mm, (MINE!), and 5.56mm, (also MINE!), and baggied it all up. Not much, maybe 20-30 of each, but it was a nice gift of range pickup from a guy who doesn't even reload.
|
|
|
Primed the rest of the container of resized/trimmed/swaged LC brass.
Now to start loading with TAC and 69 gr RMR bullets. |
|
|
Was loading 10mm loads with 800-X and I kept getting powder stuck inside the die. That doesn't bode well when you're loading right at max.
So I designed and printed this funnel whose neck goes clean through the die and pokes into the case. I also designed the funnel to be a bit taller to clear the priming tray. If anybody would like one and has a printer, IM me and I can send over the STL. Attached File Attached File |

I started building my powder measure stand base. I had to go to Home Depot for machine screws and tee nuts. Some HD shoppers are jerks who just play with the fasteners and then toss them in whatever bin they are near - and HD doesn’t staff to a police this or clean it up. Buying 4 machine screws and a pack of 4 tee nuts took way longer than it should and put me behind schedule.
But after dinner I set up my table saw and cut a piece of left over 1x6 for the base. I’ll use the drill press to make the holes tomorrow, since it’s still too hot to do too much work in the garage, even at 7PM. The wood is just generic “white wood”, but it’s smooth and nicely clear of knots or other flaws. I may stain it and poly-varnish it, just because. |

Tumbled 2 loads of range pickup 5.56 cases. I washed in Lemishine & detergent first then dried before tumbling, and the brass came out with a lot of shine. Separated the clean brass by headstamp and stored for future use.
Created some 6.8 SPC test loads using Hornady 110 BTHP bullets and A2200 powder. |

I will never tumbler 40 with 9mm brass ever again.... Then I worked on my winter reloading bench so when it's cold, i dont have to be in the garage freezing while I load. Attached File Attached File |

Shot some more if my 77gr Matchking, A2520 loads through a different rifle today. Good accuracy and no pressure signs. Managed to find all my brass along with scrounging some 9mm and 45acp. I also tumbled a mixed batch today. Mostly 7.62x39 and 38 Special with some 44 Special as well.

Yesterday I finished cutting and drilling the base I’m making for my powder measure stand. Today I stained it, and I plan to put polyurethane varnish on it. Probably two coats.
When it’s done, I’ll start loading my 5.45mm test rounds. In the past, I left all of my “make a base/stand/etc. projects unfinished. They looked like the slap-dash stuff they were. This time I took the time to make the thing at least modestly nice, so it’s getting a nice finish too. |

I "made" another 60pcs of once fired 6.8 today. A good start but another 100 or so would be nice. I'm enjoying shooting this caliber, I may just buy a batch of Starline virgin brass for future stockpiling.

Too hot today for varnishing anything in the garage, so I did stuff indoors.
I decrimped and then trimmed 200+ .223 cases I'd "put aside". As in "hid from myself", but I found them. Then I inventoried my dies for what had Lee FCDs, and what had (added) taper crimp dies. I have a bunch of those FCDs, and my fairly old RCBS .45 ACP and 9mm sets have added taper crimp dies. Someday I'll remember how I managed to get a CH taper crimp die for the 9mm set, while I have an RCBS taper crimp die for the .45 set. Last night I ordered the proper shell holders from Midsouth to fill out all but two die sets. They were out of stock for the Hornady #22 shell holder, or it would have been a clean sweep. It looks like nobody has that shell holder in stock... It looks like an actual cold front is on the way, so I hope to get my varnishing done by the end of the week. |

Today I got the first coat of varnish on my base. But the weather is indeed changing, and instead of just getting cooler, that front pushed some humidity and rain this way, so that coat gets to dry overnight.
I cleaned up my bench some, and started looking into what my next loading project might be. No firm ideas yet... |

Our weather got cooler overnight, so it was actually pleasant in the garage. I got a second coat of varnish on my powder measure base while enjoying this change.
Then I neatened up the bench and worked out some improvements to it. After dinner I set up a few loads for the wet tumbler for (I hope) tomorrow. |

Had a surprise gift of some brass today. All mixed 45, 243, 30-40 Krag. Dumped it in my fired brass bucket and it filled that, so now I have to sort the bucket and do a ton of decapping and wet tumbling.
Also received my order of fcd's and 6.8 dies, so I need to go make some more empty 6.8 brass and get ready to process it. |

Organized all the crap I ordered while away. Put some stuff in storage for more space
De-capped about 1k LC 7.62. Stopped by the local fun shop - actually have some stuff in stock. Gonna buy tomorrow. |
