Loaded 700 62gr 5.56 and 200 115gr 9mm.  Working through tumbling 2k of 9mm range brass I bought.  Ordered 1k Wolf Gold 55gr bullets to see how they compare with the Hornady offering.  I'm hoping they make good blasting ammo for my 10.3"

Gotta love Airmen (said the retired MSgt).  And folks that don't load, but who understand about loading...

I reorganized my powders in order to put away the 8 pound keg of IMR 4895 I received yesterday.

This made it clear to me that a) I need to build a magazine to store my powders, a la dryflash3's, and b) I need to get my butt in gear and start loading stuff!!! That will clear out a lot of space taken up by separate components, and give me more reason to make time to go to the range.

So I'm turning over a new leaf, and plotting out a number of projects.  If I have things planned out, I don't have to figure out what to do, just which project to work on.  Today I hope to finish my first .308 test loads - I have a number of appropriate powders to play with, so I'm working up one powder at a time.

Wish me luck!

100 60gr  Sierra hp reloaded. 1000 9mm wet tumbling, 300 30-30 resizing, 6.5 grendel sorting between large and small primer pockets.

I've dipped my toes into wet tumble cleaning. Using the second HF drum, a bent coat hanger agitator, and the BBs that were used for dry molying.

It's not blingy, but does seem to clean the inside of .308s moderately better than walnut.

They're lubed and ready for sizing to minimum spec for a Palma 95 chamber.

Loaded 200 rounds of .221 Fireball... 55 grain FMJ on top of 13 grains of 2400. This is a fun little load in the Contender.

Compared next to a 223.

I put together 50 test rounds of .308 with H4895.  Task completed, but I learned quite a bit about how a rotor-based powder measure (a RCBS Uniflow in this case) really, really needs a solid base to meter even modestly well.

A week or so back, I loaded up 50 rounds of .30-06 with the same powder and same measure, but I had the measure mounted in my Rock Chucker - rock solid, and H4895 was pretty easy to dial in.

Today, I temporarily mounted the measure on the powder measure stand that came with my loading kit (a birthday present in 1980).  It wasn’t stable enough, and I had BIG throw variations.  I wound up using a 20+ pound box of bullets to help weigh down the stand, and the variations got a lot smaller.  Point taken.

I need to drill holes in the bench top and install some T-nuts underneath so I can mount the stand really solidly before I try to use the Uniflow that way again.

Awesome. Great little cartridge in pistols.

On the same note... I got my Contender switched over to 223 and the press set up to start fiddling around with lighter bullets.

It shot 62's and 64's like crap. Those were my initial loads out of it in an attempt to find a deer load. Definitely need to stay 55 and below.

I went to Harbor Freight for 25 lb. of fine grade crushed walnut and a 30 lb. handle magnet. With a coupon and tax $24.

The walnut will fill a 35 lb. Tidy Cat bucket with a half-inch to spare. Perfect.

The magnet of course is for rounding up any stray pins I tied a paracord loop on it and wrapped the magnet body with a small freezer bag.

Going to the gun club today to ballistically disassemble various handgun cartridges and created more small sealed powder storage containers.  Friend has a new LabRadar going to see what the velocity is on some .44, .38, .40 and 10mm loads. The .40 is pretty well dialed in with previous testing, just fine tuning the heavy and medium loads in .44 and the .38 I rarely load and shoot so it will be new data for that.

Weighed a small sample of FC and RP .308 cases to measure the approximate H20 volume difference. They contain about 55 and 56gr respectively.

Now trim, chamfer, and deburring.

Not the quickest way, to say the least!
But the cases have been primed and they’re ready to go

Have a few tumbling now and may get back out there tonight

I was going to hit the range today to test some rifle loads, but "stuff" got in the way.

On the plus side, I did order dies, brass and bullets for 5.45x39.  Hornady's shell holder is out of stock pretty much everywhere, but there are workarounds.  Now for data!

Rearranged the garage including reloading setup.  I am going to reinstall the shop sink that was there when I bought the house.  That’ll simplify my wet tumbling operation.

Lastly I loaded 100 x 147gr for the PCC.

Went to the local Bass Pro hoping to pick up a pound of CFE Black to try out in the 7.62x40 to see if I can squeeze out a little bit more over AA1680 charge. Nope, just a big empty spot where it should have been..

The answer would be yes. I was getting bonkers velocities from 7.62x39.

Got a new ram primer today. I normally would completely disregard ram priming as horrible and inefficient but this is for a special project. We will see if I hate it in a few weeks.

Just finished loading up the very last 500 rounds of supersonic 300 Blackout that I am going to ever load  I pulled the dies out of the toolhead, cleaned them up and put them back in the plastic box. 7.62x40 will be replacing the 300 Blackout in that role.

Weather is in the high 40s today and sunny. Still lots of snow on the ground, but I felt I needed to do some shooting anyways.

Did a load work up with H4895 and 60gr Vmax in the 223. 22 to 24 gr.

22-23 gr was all garbage.

23.2 showed promise. 23.4 and 23.6 were good with a flyer in each.

23.8 was a one hole group. Did not measure, but it looks to be about a .3" ish group.

24 was a bit bigger, about a .6" group.

Looks like I found my load. I have a headache right now, but I plan on verifying it here in an hour or so when I feel better.
