My pair of GSG 522s.  Both have the GSG5 conversion kits installed.  The top rifle has an Aimpoint clone and the bottom has the Classic Army stock and Primary Arms micro dot with riser.  More info in my post:

HK take down pins
Foam filled the stock
Magpul rail and AFG after I milled out the handguard to accept the rail
So far I've put close to 500 rounds through it without a single hickup.  A very fun gun.

do you have pictures of your handgaurd with the rail off? or an explanation of how you did it?
Thanks,
John

Hi all - I too thought this would be a good project. This one took a little thinking and lots of time, but the result is an original looking GSG. The job can be done for very inexpensive as long as you have the needed tools.

GSG-522 Before.  Right out of the box.

GSG-522 after installing the conversion kit. The newer parts do not match the original finish of the gun...dumb!

GSG-522 After many hours of work installing the H&K G3 Walnut Furniture...LOOKS KILLER!

Many hours to complete this project, but the finished product is great. It was a lot fun doing all this and it gave me lots of garage time at night. Took it out today for the first shoot, no issues and it shot straight, better than I expected..I think the only other thing I might do is have the end of the barrel threaded to accept a bird cage hider.

Here is a complete video of everything I did to complete the job.

Looks like a modded GSG-5 P....turned into a NFA SBR ....added stock, treaded barrel, silencer, and light handrail...sweet setup

danno02- Have you thought about just running a GSG-5P flash hider? It threads right on to the front sight base just like the fake can does. It's also the same flash hider that is used on my ISSC SCAR clone. Here is a shot of my SCAR with the flash hider and one with my GSG-5 fake can using the same thread pitch.

So I'm new here and just recently joined the GSG ranks.  Standard 522-SD.  Cannot stand the size/shape of the forearm/grip which leads me to a question please:  Is there a classified section on here that I haven't found or anywhere where you guys in this thread might be selling off your not being used stock parts?  I know I can get the conversion kit, but really want the original 5 type forearm and hopefully fake suppressor.  The one on the 522 is too large in diameter to me.

Thanks in advance and for all the great pictures and info here.

Jeff

Here is my GSG-522 SD with GSG-5 conversion parts added:
Top rail, front sight, grip housing and safety, push pins, retractable stock, paddle mag release, cocking knob. I have also added a G&G rail mount, and a C-More red dot sight which I got for free when I bought my FN FS2000.

Here is an old photo of my RDTS MP5SD conversion of an HK94 with registered sear. I SBR'd the gun and sold the 2 stamp gun a few years back, don't miss it but I like the feel of the GSG as a reminder of what was cool about that gun:

Wow, lots of great pics here. New to the forum, just recently purchased a 522SD Lightweight and must say I've seen more smiles from people that shoot it vs. any other firearm. Going thru the upgrade/mod phase right now. I must be missing something, but how do I post pics from my computer?

Here's a couple of My GSG522.  For comparison, I also posted one side by side with my Hk MP5 22LR.
They are both wicked awesome fun to shoot.  My son and I trade back and forth when we go to the range.

So: here's a list of the Mods/upgrades done:
Upgraded Stock (www.hotgunparts.com)
Pin replacement kit (www.hotgunparts.com)
Converted from GSG522 to GSG5 (www.hotgunparts.com)
Replaced cheap plastic top rail with aluminum one (www.rrages.com)
Replaced forearm (www.rrages.com)
Replaced faux suppressor (www.rrages.com)
Tactical bipod (www.opticsplanet.com)
3x12 Scope (www.opticsplant.com)
Charging handle buffer (use a Home Depot or Lowes 1/4x20 Expansion Nut $1.50)

Normally, I wouldn't put so much extras into a rifle like this.  I mean, it's only a.22 after all. But these are so much fun to shoot, and its so inexpensive that we usually spend most of the day plinking with these, so why not dress it up a little?
There isn't a person who's shot it that hasn't had an ear to ear grin afterwards!

The biggest difference to the feel of the weapon was the upgrade to the forearm and stock.  It changed the GSG from feeling like a cheap toy plinker to feeling like an actual weapon.
I still need to perform firing pin mod listed in the other forum as I'm experiencing  ftf from light strikes.

One other note: If you upgrade the top rail be sure not to over-tighten the new rail as it will distort the housing, making cycling of the weapon harder.
btw, replacing the rail is a MUST DO if you plan on using an optic.  The stock rail is such a flimsy piece of sh*t that I don't know how they aren't embarrassed by it.

I picked this up last week in a trade.

I stippled the forend and added a Samson handstop I had laying around. I also ordered a 16-piece conversion kit to make it a GSG-5, some extra German magazines, push pins, and an H&K rear sight. I'll probably change the stock out for the H&K version since I haven't found any others I like. The retractable ones look cool, but I want to shoot this thing and I'm not sure I would like the lack of a good cheek weld.

Oh yeah, I need to order a G&G scope mount too.

Thanks for the ideas guys. This is a well organized and informative sub-forum. I'll be here a while.

***EDIT***(with bad cell pic)
Got the conversion kit and mags. Still waiting on the rear sight and H&K pins.

Got another GSG to add to my collection.  I found an "airsoft" metal rail for the MP5k/PK.  Once it arrived I found out the opening for the cocking lever wouldn't fit.  So I extended the opening & cut a new notch so the lever could be held back.

The fit was so solid I didn't even have to drill a new hole for the handguard pin.  Still needs some touch up work & fine tuning but here is what it looks like so far,

Here is a shot in my discreet carry case / tennis racquet case.

After taking these pictures I've added the Retractable Stock but still keep the fixed stock in the outside pocket.  The foam cut out for the mags hold 2 deep, 6 mags total.

MILSPEC556, Thanks!    (Sorry I'm just now seeing your message, haven't been on for sometime & just logged on to post a picture of my new GSG-PK Mod & case pictures.
Here is a list of mods to the GSG you like:
Airsoft Rail (modified to fit), SEF airsoft lower (modified to fit), green laser up front and sighmark Z series Red/Green dot.  I've also added the cocking tube buffer, Pin & screw set from rrages.
Thanks again & hope you like the new one I just posted.

My preban GSG5. I have installed a Knights handguard, Choate adjustable stock, mount and red dot.
Other things I did to the gun were=
HK rear sight
paddle mag matches original MP5
Selectors match original MP5
Rubber coated grip and inside the grip is smoothed out with a grip plug installed
extended sling loop
rubber coated magazines
HK pins
suppressor cover
cocking handle buffer
All screws installed with lock tight.
I have basically created an exact copy of an MP5 externally.
