Benchmade 551 with the D2 blade. I've had it for 2 years and have been really tough on it; great knife.

Comes up short on the length scale, but a cold steel ak47 is pretty solid. I was able to pick one up for 30 bucks. Normally I think it's 60. It's trending towards the insanely big, but it won't break. Well, I doubt it would break doing anything sensible.

Not quite 4" but I would have to agree the Griptilians are no BS, tough folders and a great value as well.

Take a look at the Cold Steel pocket Bushman. Pretty damned solid. Might be a bit too big for you though.

I'm a big Benchmade fan. If the Griptillian had originally been introduced with a D2 blade I'd have a couple of them, just not impressed with the 440 stainless that Benchmade uses.

Kershaw does make some good knives, you just have to find the right one. I really like the Boa, aluminum scales, assisted opening and S30V blade steel.

+1

I have a 551 but its not D2. I have deployed with it twice and use it as my EDC and I can say the thing is probably the toughest folder I've seen. I have abused it thouroughly and it hasnt told me "no" yet. I can only imagine the D2 is even tougher.
