Im very much thinking about selling my M99 to get an M82a1. I don't really shoot much for groups and mostly my gun is used for blasting at my friends range. Are the M82a1's picky with ammo at all? I mostly shoot "cheap" AE ammo and didn't know if there have been any issues with function in m82's? What a lightly used newer generation of M99 worth these days? Thanks.

I haven't had any issues with my M82CQ being ammo-picky, but I'm only using factory Federal or Hornady stuff.

Does it have to be a Barrett?

Have you looked at any others? Like the Serbu BFG-50A or Vigilance Rifles M14?

The Serbu is cheaper but more accurate due to the design. As for the M14, I've only seen it in the videos but it's more than both of them. And from the vids and info just as accurate or better than both. www.vigilancerifles.com

Something to think about if you're going to shell out that kinda money. As for selling your 99, it's not a sellers market. You'll have to be real about the price if you want to sell it. I would think that if you can get $2,800-3,000, you're ahead of the curve.

Don't forget that you're going to need a scope for it unless you keep the one that you have on your 99.

I have shot just about every type of ammo through my M82 short of a rufous round. I have shot hot spotter tracer to hornady amax with everything in between. It digested it without a hiccup. For blasting the Barret cannot be beat in reliability.

Thanks guys for the info. I think I paid around $3000 for the gun anyway and had only been fired a few times prior to me getting it. I would be happy getting $2500 out of it. Really just bought it for blasting fun and now that I have some more income upgrading to M82 would just have one really. Its a summer weekend play at the farm gun.

I loved my M82a1 it ate everything. Sold it to buy a M107a1 20" and have a can in jail for it.
Its a buyers market. Sold my 82 for $8K with scope a year ago and now i'm seeing them as low as $6k new with scope. Guess I sold it just in time.

The only ammo my 82 had problems with was Talon. I think it must not be sized properly because the Safety Harbor single shot hates them too. 99 eats them up.

Wish I would have kept my 82. I have been trying to sell my 99 for 3k for a while now with no luck. It has the bushnell 10X that a lot of them shipped with but some no name crappy rings. If I drop it to 2500 I could probably sell it buy not ready to take that big of a hit yet.

Well looks like Im probably getting an M82a1. Very nice guy and I are making a trade and some cash since he wanted something smaller and I wanted an M82a1. Yay. Cant wait to get it.

Gun should be here Tuesday! Gonna keep my SWFA SS on it for now. Maybe one day get some higher quality glass for it. Trying to save up for a M10/45 and or a Honey Badger now.

Follow up question. Has anybody found any ammo that is not reliable in the M82? I mostly shoot "plinking" AE. I have a a lot of Summit API rounds I originally got with my M99. Hoping they with cycle ok in the 82.

I don't know if you saw my comment on the Talon. It was the only ammo that ever locked up in my 82.

Got my 82 today! Pretty much looks brand new. Previous owner put 40 rounds through it. Super excited to get zero'd and get to the range. Maybe get a leupold mk4 to replace my SS this winter. Came with 2 mags, monopod, carry handle.

Any other accessories you guys recommend? I'm thinking about the barret cheek rest cover. Seems metal might be unfortable when it's super hot/cold and maybe a spare small parts kit.

I got my M82A1 for the fun factor since the range I shoot at is limited to 200. I'm always looking out for more mags.

They’re all above $7k that I’m seeing. Haven’t seen in the $6k range since Buds had them for the mid-$6k range earlier this year.
