The manual says not to lubricate piston and regulator. So if you clean these parts with your choice of cleaner that removes carbon you just dry off and put it back together?   You don't put light oil and wipe off to protect metal?

I do anyways. LIGHTLY. Otherwise dust and stuff likes to get in there and get nasty.

I scrub it clean, wipe it off, then put it back in. I think the concern is if you lube it up it might start gumming up and won't work as well as it should.

I take a wire brush on the dremel  and clean it up, wipe it down, make sure the little rings are NOT aligned and put it back in. I do this maybe once every two years as I only put between 500-700 rounds a year through my two rifles.
