Almost picked up a vortex instead of the k16i solely to get another shade of FDE on this thing...

13.7" chopped and pinned by PMM, the rest is recognizable.

So do all you guys swear by the KDG SCAR stocks? I probably have about 1000 rounds through both my SCAR 16 and 17 and the 17 can be a little brutal with the standard ugg boot stock at times and was wondering if the KDG stock would be better

I had an ACR at one point and loved the stock and was thinking about dropping the money to try it on the scar. anyone here think its not worth it? Thanks for the input!

You do indeed have outstanding taste good sir!   Ive got the M4 2000 on the 16s and hopefully in ~2 weeks I'll have the SDN6.  How much longer do you think you have to go for the Mini4?

I ran the SDN-6 on mine while waiting for the Mini4, it was far too heavy and long for the 16S. The can actually cleared earlier this week but I have to make time to travel a few hours away to get it from the FFL, so soon, very soon.

Mini-4 is one of my favorite cans. I rock a Surefire SOCOM-SB on the SCAR these days but the Mini-4 before that... Does an excellent job taking the bite out of the SBR.

I don't think the KDG on the 17 would be any better than the OEM stock.  I had a KDG that came with my 17 and I sold it after the first range session.  Bought a replacement OEM stock since that was what I was used to on my 16 and the recoil felt better with the OEM than the KDG on the 17.

YMMV

The factory CQC barrel is 10" not 10.5". I personally believe the only reason some go with the 10.5" length when having their factory barrels cut down, is simply for shoulders and clearance issues for their particular suppressors and the end of the rail. You can't go wrong with either length but personally I'd go 10".

Been jonesing to do an MR556/HK416 clone for some reason, I mean, I know the reason, they are cool guy guns, so, took the SCAR out to snap out of it... pound for pound, its the smoothest shooting suppressed SBR I have ever fired... not overgassed in the suppressed setting and smooth as butter... sure, the gun "rocks" a little more and feel a little less in-line with the recoil than an AR, but damn it if it doesn't settle back on target for you and make it effortless...

Had mine cut down to 10 inches by PMM... he really does do some great work

action shots...

In case anyone was wondering how the new Magpul M3 Medium Coyote Tan magazines looked (color matching wise) like with the SCAR 16. Got to love the 50 shades of FDE.

However in person (camera makes the upper more gold than it actually is) the new MCT matches really well with the lower and there is barely any wiggle room when inserted in the lower (does drop free when you press the button though). If you have FDE/Tan Lancer L5AWM magazines, the new MCT is very close in shade.

Maybe off topic, but I know you have to trim the gen 2 PMAGs to work in the scar, but do you have to trim the gen 3 PMAGs? don't have any to try and was thinking about ordering some. Just curious. thanks! #USGImagsforlife

I don't believe you do with the gen 3 ones (or at least I hope). Both magazines in person seem to interact exactly the same way withy the lower (like nothing being pushed higher on one versus the other).

Edit: just tested with a M2 vs M3 and M3 doesn't raise it while the M2 does. So no you don't need to trim a M3.

From Magpul's website:

While the GEN M3 is optimized for Colt-spec AR15/M4 platforms, modified internal and external geometry also permits operation with a range of additional weapons such as the HK® 416/MR556A1/M27 IAR, British SA-80, FN® SCAR™ MK 16/16S, and others.
It was my understanding that they had worked the dimensions of the mag to fix the issues being had before.  Glad to see that is the case.  I'll have to pick some up.

Do they install the right size gas jet when they cut?
Any ill effects with the work?
I hear the chrome lining in the barrel can be a problem.
Just sent in my form 1 to sbr my 16 and looking at them for the work.

Thanks!

I had both my 16 and 17 cut. No ill effects what so ever. I want to say the 16 didn't group well after the cut the first couple trips out but on my third trip shooting PMC XTAC M193 shot around 1.5 inch groups at 50 meters or so and 2-2.5 inch groups at 100 meters. Shoots MOA with my 77 grain match stuff. Maybe there was a burr or something in there, no idea if it was the gun or bad shooting on my part. Either way, she's solid now and my favorite SBR.

as for the gas jets, the 16 came back with the right jet, it's perfect and kicks brass out to the 3-4 o'clock like a fine tuned machine. Like, it feels like I'm shooting a .22 when shooting suppressed.

The 17 was a different story, mint came back over gassed and was beating the shut out of me. I went 2 sizes smaller than what it came back with (I ordered a few smaller jets) and it's awesome now. Suppressed it's like a pussy cat. Best battle rifle you can get.

I hear people talking about the chrome lining all the time, but all my ar barrels are chrome lined and have been cut so I think the chrome flaking or whatever people worried about was an old wives tail. PPM will take care of you or class III machining down in Texas. Both are awesome outfits.

So, I love my accupower 1-8 on my SPR and was thinking about offloading my ELCAN 1-4 on my SCAR and replacing it with the accupower 1-8. The SBRed SCAR gets wonky with the BDC on the ELCAN at 600 meters with the 13 inch barrel and I was thinking I could squeeze a little more versatility out of the SCAR with a mil/mil 1-8 and run some 168s/175s for a change...

right now with the ELCAN my SCAR is pretty much a Gucci battle rifle and I use my .308 bolt gun for distance work, however, once I get rid of the bolt gun, that should leave room for the SCAR do try and serve as a jack of all trades blaster...

PROS:

1. extra 4x
2. mil/mil so I can create some load data
3. 1x on the variable is very clean
4. Can run in a 1.93 inch high mount and clear the crap on the front of the gun

CONS:

1. Weight (25 oz scope plus another 7 oz for the larue mount puts be a 2 lb optic) vs the 23 oz ELCAN... its not much but ive run the vortex 1-6s and they are beasts and I remember feeling it
2. Memorizing holds isn't quite as fast as using a BDC that is pretty close out to 400 meters or so
3. Rotating the cat tail isn't as fast as flipping the lever foward

figured I would ask on here. Im a day time (sometimes night time) range clown most of the time... just looking for some input. thanks!

Thought I'd post my FN's.

Select fire FAL
PS90's
SCAR 17 with MLOK rails/Trijicon TriPower/stock trigger/SigSauer light/laser grip
SCAR with 20" barrel/SEAL lower/Shooting Sight trigger/PMM side rail eliminators/MLOK lower rail/Steiner M5Xi 3-15

Both SCARs can utilize the Thunderbeast Ultra 7 mounted on the shorter barreled one in the picture.

Or 1.7. I think it was a 2.0 when it came back to me or something ridiculous. I went drastic to 1.6 and it tamed her right down. I'll get back on here when I get home on Saturday and let you know

You've read my mind, I've been saving up for a 1-8 Accupower just for these very reasons.  However, I have the stock barrel still on mine and with the 1-8x I was hoping it can transition from an SPR at 8x to a battle rifle in 1x.  What optic mount do you use with your accupower?

Running a Geiselle DDC hyper extended mount on mine (Got it the last PA sale) I love it. Matches the gun with another different shade of FDE as usual.
