I had that exact setup only it didn't sit flush; it was a 14.5" barrel but it was a cool carbine all the same. Still heavy with that big can hanging off the front, don't kid yourself.

Was gonna pick up another brake / collar from brownells with the 15% deal the other day but noticed they are $227 now...any reason they're $100 more than other places?

That is gorgeous. 16”barrel with 13.5” rail? AEM5?
Thank you!

I don't know much about AE suppressors but am learning. Is that barrel the correct SPR profile, or are you running one of the adapter collars on it? Thanks!

Last I saw, they sell them as "Ops Inc" and appear to charge a premium for it.

Brownells seems to like to vacillate between good deals and MSRP pricing, with little in between.

I have to chuckle about this.  Whenever someone buys a brake setup from them and the brake or collar doesn't fit, or the brake get's damaged, 1 guess who ends up taking care of it.
I just went to the Brownells site.  Almost $240 for a brake kit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Read the questions being asked (around 7 or so). Answers sound like a politician. I'm just shaking my head. The answer is M22 x 1 thread.

I can't speak to his experience, but I have two of those.  One on my 223 PRS rifle that doubles for F-class.  I average .25"-.4" groups with it on my bolt gun.  I havent mounted the other on the MK12 yet.

Edit-my rifle shoots the same size groups with or without it.  Conclusion-it doesnt degrade accuracy at all.

Thanks for the pics.

What's the consensus on blast baffle abuse using the flash hider mount vs. the brake? Particularly with a shorter 12.5" barrel?

I know the 12.5" w/brake is going to be loud AF, but I don't reckon I'd be using it much without the can. Besides, I haven't seen the FH mount in stock anywhere for a while..

The same as any of my other carbines.  Really, the farthest that I have shot this one is 70 yards.  I went with the hider on this one instead of the brake because I plan on shooting it unsuppressed a good portion of the time, and figured the brake would really suck on a 12.5" barrel.

I have a MK 12 with the brake on it, so I guess the true test would be to try both muzzle devices and see if there is any difference in accuracy.

I'm new to this thread, but I need to make a correction/addition to the thread.  That bolt gun in this pic may indeed be a M24 in a McCree stock but to the best of my knowledge there was never a M24E2.  Remington marketed a M24A2 but it was never officially adopted by the Army.  It sports the Ops Inc. 3rd Model.  Unlike most if not all Ops/AE mountings, the M24 has a specially milled barrel which takes the place of the collar.

Though the Army didn't officially adopt the M24A2, some rifles did make it into Afghanistan via the 25th Inf.

Today Ron calls it the M24 suppressor

[Last Edit: red6actual] [#24]
There were other versions of the M24 with only the barrel profile for the 3rd Model .30 Cal.

The 3rd Model became the AE A3RD and now the M24 as pictured above. They were 5/8-24 threaded early on and later 11/16-24 (Late model M24A2 barrel pictured below);

M24 knurling;

I must say these cans are amazing, tested next to a 16" .22lr with high velocity ammo, the M24A2 with AE M24 suppressor measured just below the decibel level of the .22lr.

Many Thanks to Mr. Allen for the help with my M24 project.

Not one of mine. Never saw anything from Phil that long either, but it could have been done before I met him. Thank you for the pictures though. Back then we occasionally got rifles in from the different groups and were able to get feedback from the individual shooters. Some really interesting stories for sure.

That is freaking cool. Since it is said to be long action (I don't know how to tell by looking), is it chambered in .30-06?

It's really hard for me to tell if that pic on page 1 is a long action from the angle but if it is indeed a M24 barreled action in the McCree stock then it's most likely .7.62x51 unless it's one of the Ranger's that was rebarreled into .300 Win Mag. They got in trouble for that modification because it wasn't authorized.  I suspect the guy in this pic just above is from one of the Ranger Battlions.  Big Army wouldn't have gotten away with that suppressor mod but SOCOM could have.

It might not be an M24 at all. That particular rifle belonged to one of the main gentlemen at KRG Ops, and was the rifle he used in the 2010 USASOC Sniper Competition representing HHC USASOC. They've posted on their Instagram in the past, I just poked them to see if he can clarify what it was. Being he was I think a SOTIC instructor at the time, it could be a personal build or a school house rifle or something. They had a lot more flexibility.

He also has pics of his Mk13 in a KRG Whiskey chassis he took on deployment, hence why I think it could be something other than an M24E2, but might as well get it straight from him!

The m24 goes back over the barrel about 4.625", the AE30 goes back about 2.625". Same baffle stack on both. Only difference is how far back over the barrel they go.

Is there a problem with having this much of the muzzle inside of the brake?  I have a WOA SPR barrel and if I used the supplied crush washer or extra shims I was getting around 12-13 complete rotations before the van was seated against the collar.  I am now getting 8-9 rotations which I thought was more appropriate.
