On that 16" rifle gas build shown above I used a crush washer and a couple of the small shims from the PWS shim pack. Got my muzzle break port even with the crown, then I did a 1/4 turn to time the break.
The original Ops Inc instructions that came with my old can, which I still have, say 1/4 turn is the recommendation. |

Does anyone have any actual DB reduction numbers with the AEM5? I can’t find any anywhere.

Any chance somebody can post pics of groups with the AE/Ops flash hider?
ADCO says they reduce accuracy, I'd be curious to see what that looks like on paper. |

I have nothing other than the picture. Posted to see if anyone else had info on it.
I've since picked up an ADCO A2ish AEM device that works damn good. |

Are Daniel Defense barrels correctly profiled? I seem to remember reading that they are. Thinking about turning my 16” gun into a Recce-looking thing but I really like this barrel and don’t want to swap to the BA barrel just for the profile. I’m hoping I could just use the AEM5 M4 collar.

Is there a muzzle device compatible with the AEM5 that when P/W will bring a 13.7" barrel to 16"?

Anybody familiar with using the Smith Vortex flash hider with the Ops Inc threading? Anything different between using it and the muzzle brake?

Have a smith on my patrol rifle as it rarely gets the can. When I first got it I noticed it would scrape the first baffle. Took it to a local shop that took some material off the end of the tines.

I remembered Ron saying in the past that he wasn't really able to properly warranty the use of AEM/Ops cans on anything but the Brake mount, as the brake is technically part of the system.
That being said, I'm curious to see what the actual impact to the can's life is with typical non-SOCOM firing schedules, like us folks who go burn a few hundred rounds at the range a few times a year. I want the option of shooting my rifles without the can on and I loathe doing that with a brake. I'm not looking at a compensator like the Spike's either, but what kind of flash hider design would work with the AEM/Ops design without significantly increasing wear on the first baffle? Maybe something with a more closed end? Or does that effectively leave you with a more blasty compensator/brake effect by reducing the area that the blast is concentrated onto the baffle? Other than the Spikes or AE Brake, I'm only aware of the A1 offered by ADCO and the Smith Vortex that's AE compatible. Currently the can would be on a 16", but in the future I have plans for my 12.5" to have an AEM2 and I want to be able to shoot my SBR unsuppressed without a ridiculous brake rattling my teeth. Now that I think of it, what about one of those Ops flash hider/brake sleeves that Harms4X copied? How do those work? |
|
|
I was thinking the same thing. Basically a blast shield to thread on the brake when not using the can.
