[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Is $200 for an used Winchester lever a good price?

A friend of mine has an used Winchester lever action 30-30 for sale at $200. The wood is in great shape and the blueing looks good. I know nothing about these rifles, but I think it would be cool to own one if this is a good price. Any input would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Not knowing the market in your area or which model you're referring to it's hard to judge. However, in this area $200.00 for a used Winchester Model 94 or Marlin 336 in 30-30 in good condition at the end of deer season would be about right.
A Model 54 or a classic Model 1894 would go higher, especially if it had some collector value.

Try to find out the year of it......the mid 80`s ones (angle eject) were CRAP.....

$200 is a great price for a pre-64, not too good a price for a post-64. Look for the screw on the bottom of the shell lifter on the underside of the rifle, screw means pre-64, no screw means post-64.

Better yet. If the S# is 27000000 or more its post 64

I found a unfired post '64 for $150. If you look you can usually find a good used one for that much.

New ones start at just above $200.

I found out that the serial number is 49xxxxx Trapper model. Is this gun okay, I'm not sure if it is an angle eject type.

The trapper model is the shortest barreled '94 they make..16" I believe. Nice little guns..fair price.
