I am strongly cosidering a 458 SOCOM upper that Tony makes and am curious as to who has bought stuff from him and what you thought of the product you recieved?

There are a number of Tromix owners here and they routinely sound off on the high quality of Tony's products. Real first class stuff from the posts that I've read.

I think I'v found them under pistol caliber posts if you want to search.

You think you can handle it, it is not just a new upper...it is an addiction, a sickness, a blessing, a BIG OLE WOODY!!!!

It will ruin you, you will sleep with it, name it, make a web sight about it!! neglect your other uppers and only shoot your tromix, Take it to the range not to sight it in, you have already done it 12 times, but to see the looks on everyones elses faces. you will take it to AR15.com shoots just to abuse other members...are you sure you are ready for this responsibility. it is not just a new upper, it is a way of life...sniff sniff, excuse me, i have to go hug my tromix now...

I only have a little ole 50AE upper from tony. I love it, quality is great, service is great. I am actually considering getting a 440 from him, possibly even a 458 field artillery. If you do get it, may I suggest getting a PAST recoil pad for your shoulder for when you go target shooting, but of course, dont let others use the pad while they shoot, you want them to be abused!!

I need to update my tromix page, I have taken off the aimpoint and put a fixed power leupold scope on it ( 6x scope) .....

Do you reload your own .50 AE? If so, what is the cost per round? I've thought about doing this, but only if I can afford the costs involved.

That does it I must have one!! I was loking at a .50bmg ferret upper for alomst $1300, but the Tromix .458 SOCOM is only $865 and Ill have $$$ for ammo which is expensive also! This willalso give me a reason to get reloading equipment and start on that as well!! I NEED THIS UPPER NOW!! THANK YOU

What do you think of the muzzle break? Is it really needed?

Well, it looks like I'm a read oddball. I've got a Tromix upper in .44 Mag. Got it to match my Dan Wesson, sort of a revolver-carbine combo. It basically rocks. Not as impressive as the bigger Tromix uppers but still fun.

a Tromix is a Tromix which = impressive in my mind. I looked et the 44 but have always loved the Desert eagle 50AE, so I had to got het way. Now I need to get the pistol to go with the rifle.

I have not fired a 50ae upper without it to compare the difference...Send tony an Email to get his opinion on how effective it is with the .458 round, I would be interested in knowing.

I have shot the Tromix 458 SOCOM quiet a bit. A friend has done some development work on suppressors and that is one of them. Tony sent a few uppers for testing and they were great. We did find, and Tony told us, that the plastic mags work best in this set up. Although it worked well with the issue mags it seemed more smooth with the plastic ones. We even had one in full auto that everyone loved, but shooting it a lot was very cost prohibitive. The machine work was very good and the finish of the weapon was top notch. We shot the 500 gr bullet for testing and I was very impressed with it overall, I think it would be a great boar hunting gun. This upper is also a great entry gun for law enforcement in my opinion when suppressed. It is accurate, hard hitting and handles well, recoil is comfortable and it balances well with a loaded mag inserted. On top of all of that Tony is a great guy to deal with.

I got the 50AE
A lot of fun, you get a lot of attention.
It's a custom gun. It seems more like you are building it with Tony
Than just buying one off the shelf. He doesn't even laugh at you when
you might ask for strange things.

According to the Tromix site, the 50AE has been discontinued. That's somewhat good news for me as I have to sell mine, as much as I love it. (Strapped for cash, and this is the only gun I own purely for entertainment.)

I have 2 of Tony's uppers. 440 & 458. Working on third. Awsome uppers. The 458 is the way to go! May be why the 50AE is discontinued. 458 bullets in 300gr are not as expensive as 50cal slugs & can be driven to 2100fps from a 16"brl. Great brush gun! Tony is easy to deal with & has great service. For those of us that haven't gotten into reloading, it's hard to beat the ammo availability of 50AE.

Edited to add that Tony is indeed great to work with. When I had a problem with the upper, he new exactly what was wrong and sent out a new bolt that was better than the original. Colt instead of DPMS.

shot the 50 Beowulf the other day at the range. its like a 50AE with a 7.62 shell jammed up the backend (this is so they dont have to weaken the boltface more than they have to) thing was awesome
