Illuminated reticles are OK for use in NY. Artificial lights such as spots or lasers are illegal for hunting.

Could be that better glass would have more light transmission making the target a little easier to see, and the illuminated reticule should help to keep the crosshairs from being lost in a shadow. I'm sure more knowledgeable members will confirm or deny this. HTH

i have the 3rd gen springfield scope, 56mm, and i can see at near dark conditions, and he low power settings on the crosshairs work perfectly

I've got a VOMZ 8x56 I've been pretty happy with and I've just ordered the identical scope with the illuminated reticle function so that I can do a side-by-side comparison. I'll report back when it shows up and I get a chance to make use of it.
