As I understand it, any manufacturer can send a request to the BATF for a variance to replace a broken receiver, but only for products they manufactured or for a company they purchased. The receiver will have to have a flaw/defect that could cause serious injury or be damaged beyond repair. I've heard second hand that Colt refuses to do this, but I have not experienced it myself.

As GBT states, only the original manufacturer can "repair" them by replacing the receiver. If that manufacturer no longer exists, you're out of luck. All of the current manufacturers will do so, but they don't like to because it's a major hassle, both interrupting their manufacturing process and dealing with BATF. -Troy |
