Just saw an interesting item in the Brownell's catalog, Vortex FS made by Smith. Some questions;

1)Is this really worth the $50.00?
2)Does it effect accuracy or velocity?
3)Description mentions "minor modification" necessary. Modify what and how?

Hot Damm!

I get it for $36 and I've been wanting to put it on my .223 700VS for a while now. I think I'll go ahead and order one.

I had considered threading the barrel on my Rem 700 PSS at one point. I just decided there are better things to spend my money on myself!

You can mount any supressor... just have Kurt thread the barrel and screw it on. You could loose some accuracy but it shouldn't be too bad!

FWIW, this is a set-screw model. I'll look up the part # here in a minute.

I guess they have dis-continued this. I can't find it on Brownell's or Smith's sites. I was looking at an old (98-99) catalog when I found this. If anyone has this, it was on page 124, part #851-100-702.

Oh well...

Good freakin' grief! I completely forgot to mention this was for a .308 cal 700 VS or P model.

A while ago ago, I seem to recall an article in G&W for LE(?), somebody wrote an article about finding a surplus Maine State Patrol Model 700 for sale. Among the things he added, he used a DSA set screw muzzle break. I think he may have had to remove some material from the inside diameter of the break to match the barrel's outside diameter.

My .308 PSS barrel is cut down to 18" and threaded 1/2"-28 and right now I have a Smith Enterprise AR15 muzzle brake on it. The bore of the AR15 MB is about .340" and clears a .308 easily. I have a Smith Enterprise Vortex that I am going to put on later to see what it looks like after sunset.
